The Knicks didn't have money to sign Nash, or assets to trade back to make it work. I don't know why Dan Patrick would think that.

He has his sources. Chew on this, too. Jeremy Lin might not be long for New York. The Rockets might have their eye on the restricted free agent, just like Omer Asik.

I'm sure ESPNEWS anchor Max Bretos didn't write that headline.

Remember when Jeremy Lin was the talk of not just New York sports & the NBA, but sports period? The novelty wore off in a hurry...

I know he has his sources, I just don't think he used them in saying that. It sounds made up. Phx didn't wanna take salary back and NY didn't have the cap room. NY was never a realistic possibility.

Houston offered Lin a four year, $30-32M offer supposedly. It's backloaded, it'll go $5M, $5M, $10M, $10M. The Knicks are reportedly hesitant to committ that much to him 3 and 4 years from now.

My question would obviously be to ask why Houston wouldn't offer that money to Dragic? I guess maybe they are more concerned with business than winning. I don't think anyone thinks Lin is better than Dragic.

The China money from the Yao era has dried up, and they want to get that flowing again.

They want to stick it to both the Bulls & Knicks in regards to the luxury tax for both Asik & Lin respectively, especially in the third year of the contract.

The reason why Jeremy Lin is a bigger deal is that he's one of the first Asian point guards in the NBA.

I was surprised that Steve Nash accepted a sign-and-trade. Not just any other team, but the Los Angeles Lakers, a team in the Phoenix Suns' own Pacific Division. It will be a little different seeing Steve wearing a number other than #13 with the purple & gold, but all indications had Nash going to the New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors or the new NBA Champion Miami Heat, not the Lakers.
It is my understanding that Nash specifically asked to be moved to L.A. because his kids will remain in Phoenix and he wanted to remain reasonably close.

I'll take your word for it, Zippy. However, Dan Patrick said on his syndicated sports talk radio/TV show today that Nash was thisclose to going to the Knicks, not the Lakers.

From USA Today...
"This is what I call a family values contract," Nash's agent Bill Duffy told USA TODAY Sports. "He was seriously considering retiring so he could remain close to his children. We had to twist his arm to have an open mind. He didn't want to be away from his children, and this allows him to be in a competitive situation, and even though it's a rival, he wanted Phoenix to get some value back. It's a win-win."
Nash has three children, but is divorced from their mother, who lives in the Phoenix area. Nash and his ex-wife have twin daughters, Lola and Bella, who are 7 years old, and a son, Matteo, who will turn two in November.
Phoenix is a one-hour flight from Los Angeles, making it easy for Nash to travel between the two cities.

Good point. The greatness of Yao Ming was obviously overshadowed by the influx of 7-foot Asian centers in the NBA during his stint. Wikipedia defines it as "The Asian Invasion". YouPorn.com defines "The Asian Invasion" as having a 86% "thumbs-up" rating.
