Olajuwon became a naturalized American citizen on April 2, 1993.[48] For the 1996 Olympics, he received a FIBA exemption and was eligible to play for Dream Team III. The team went on to win the gold medal in Atlanta. During the tournament, he shared his minutes with Shaquille O'Neal and David Robinson. He played 7 out of the 8 games and started 2. He averaged 5 points and 3.1 rebounds and had 8 assists and 6 steals in eight games.

Henry...did not know that they left Olajuwon off of the first dream team because he was completely dominated and outplayed in practices by Christian Laettner?

I just assumed that he was on the team until OKC posted the rosters. He was better than Robinson and Ewing.

David Robinson almost lost his roster spot to Cherokee Parks

With the number of injuries keeping te best players out of the 2012 lineup, we are getting close to what is essentially their 'b' team.

This thread is crazy.

I hadn't really given what Kobe said much thought besides laughing it off as him trying to give this new team confidence. To say this years team could beat the 1992 Dream Team is silly. I understand what people are trying to do, it just would never happen. I don't need to bring up the centers or the bench or the fact that Pippen and Jordan would dominate on D. Others have already.

Completely agree. Jordan in his prime would make 34 year old Kobe look stupid. The intimidation factor with the guys down low can't be dismissed. Barkley and Malone would make 2012 PG's piss their pants trying to come into the paint. Besides Magic and Bird the majority of the key guys were still young and still in their prime.

 Barkley and Malone never intimidated anybody. That was a terrible example.

But its not really close to crazy. Saying this is the B team for USA because they are missing two guys is crazy.

Rose, Howard, Wade, Bosh would make an impact. Hypothetically.

Howard would shit his pants with Ewing, Malone, Robinson shoving him around.

Put Pip on Rose and he shrivels up like it's the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals.

Uh... Howard is def stronger than Ewing, could defend all 3 of those guys, and is a better athlete as well... Don't buy into Nas/hova/makaveli (Famous rapper troll guy). He once was denied an autpgraph by Howard, and hates him ever since.

Malone was a terrible defensive player in 1992. There's literally nothing he could do to stop Dwight Howard.

Also, Love would get abused on defense but anyone who thinks he's not holding his own on the boards hasnt been paying attention. Love's the best rebounder since Rodman.

And if this thread is to be believed Pip and Jordan would shut down the entire 2012 team defensively. The othe three guys don't even need to play defense. The 2012 team wouldn't even score.

As I said yesterday, I think it'd be close.

My point today is Rose goes into a shell when he's guarded by a bigger defender. Lebron made him scared and ineffective. Pippen would do the same. And Howard would have a very difficult time against bigger players.

But Malone is LeBron's size. Dwight Howard is much bigger than him.

I get your point about Pip/Rose, but I think that's be a terrible strategy. Durant would light '92 up even with Pip guarding him. Without Pip guarding him he'd go nuts.

I think Paul is better for this type of team than Rose though. And Paul would drive '92 crazy by blowing past Magic or posting up Stockton and hitting guys like Love and Durant all day.

I also think Kobe/Iggy/LeBron = Pip/MJ defensively.

Kyrie Irving challenges Kobe Bryant to a game of 1 0n 1... Kobe says 50 grand is the wager... Fucking hilarious. Kobe, who is legitimately offended by Kyrie challenging him, says, "You better go watch some tape." As well as 5 or 6 other great comments to Irving.

This is gold. Im glad it was recorded. Kobe tells him he's a high school kid. I dont think Irving could do much offensively, or defensively against old Kobe.
