No idea. Responded to you in the DB thread. Nas and bagels probably know. What you think of the pick?

They just opened up $1M in cap room.

So they have how many roster spots filled and how much cap room now?

Look ... I'll admit that the theoretical Bulls lineup does seem intriguing.

But asswipe Simmons is right about Jerry and his money, so it's kinda hard to believe.

The cap hold for both picks was about $3M. Now this pick only has a cap hold of about $1.5M. The other roster spot only has a cap hold of $500k. That's how the trade freed up $1M.

Simmons just accidentally admitted that he doesn't really understand/respect the difference between breaking stories and making them up.

Saw that. Had it all worked out for Melo but if JR eats money which he wasn't sure about.

If they dump Dunleavy and Boozer they will have $16M. They will need to dump Snell to get to $17M now unless they trade this pick.

I guess that will have to be enough. Melo you want to try or be a knick with more cash?

It would. Most any other team can give him is a starting salary of $18M

Ok stupid question Nas... if they freed up enough room to sign Melo at max, could they sign veterans at some sort of mid level exception then or would they have to pay luxury tax?

Not stupid I do not understand either. You have to fill a roster.

I'm wrong. As long as the Bulls don't amnesty Boozer they will have the MLE to use on Mirotic.

Rose/Noah/Melo/McDermott/who cares

I don't know if it was Bernstein who I heard the idea from, but it's kinda like getting tired of seeing the same damned movie, but this one would at least be different (if not successful) ... which completely cuts against his "how does this win you a championship" idea, but we're not here for that now.

Tall, white shooter drafted early in the first round busts? We can sleep well tonight, that never happens.

Look, you can disagree with me about it, but a black guy is telling you this white guy is okay ... you can't argue with that.

Where's FF with his opinion? I think he'd like the pick. If the Bulls are going to avoid the superstar approach then you need to beef up your middle class, so to speak. You can be top heavy like the Heat, or you can spread the wealth around like the Spurs.

The Bulls are neither.

They need to fill the void between Rose and guys like Butler with folks are, while not superstars per se, are lethal enough to attract defensive attention on their own merit. This is what the Spurs have with Ginobli, Diaw, etc., which allows both the stars (Parker, Leonard) and the lower class specialists (Green, Bonner, etc) to do some damage.

The Bulls lack that impactful middle class, and they keep signing or drafting guys who will fill specialist roles.

I have the same opinion leash has pretty much. I didn't expect much tonight. But I don't like the pick. I think Harris will be a better player.

From Blog a Bull:

"The ESPN telecast (and my own antsy retweet of Chad Ford) spoke to the idea of the Bulls gaining cap space with this deal. Salary guru Mark Deeks has the actual numbers though, factoring in the minimum roster charge:

#11 cap hold ($1,898,300) plus one roster charge ($507,336) versus #16 cap hold ($1,468,900) and #19 ($1,266,000). Mere $329,365 difference.
[Update by your friendly BullsBlogger, 06/26/14 9:00 PM CDT: latest has Bulls also taking on Anthony Randolph, and his guaranteed $1.8m contract, in this deal. This would mean the Bulls are actually taking on salary (using a trade exception from the Luol Deng trade, albeit expring money that could theoretically be included in a sign-and-trade]"
