The Atlantic can be interesting if the Nets are decent, but it can just as easily be a sea of boring mediocrity (I'm not a Knicks believer). The Spurs' division is potentially the most competitive.

Cleveland is a real wild card....IF Bynum actually plays, obviously a huge if....they could be a pretty damn good team ...even without him they'll certainly be improved somewhat

I actually forgot about Bynum. I was thinking of Irving, this year's rookie, and some assumed improvements between this year and last. An effective Bynum doesn't make them a contender immediately, but certainly makes the division more interesting than it currently is.

Your post, KS, reminds me you wanted to discuss my opinion on Rose not having any help on the roster?

agree completely. I like what they've put together.

I don't really disagree with everything here. We may differ slightly about Noah, but I believe that's a separate argument. The question, for me, is do the Bulls have enough to beat the following teams:

OKC
Miami
SA
Indy
LAC

I believe the above-mentioned teams, plus Chicago, will compete for the final four spots in the playoffs. I still am skeptical about beating Miami, but even if that happens, I don't see the Bulls taking 4 out of 7 against OKC and San Antonio. I say that because I do not think the Bulls have enough offense; they're a supremely talented defensive team that can generate sufficient offense through Rose's playmaking, but other guys like Deng and Boozer are simply unable to keep the Bulls in the game when things get tight against playoff defense. In other words, if you have the right guys like OKC, Miami, and SA do, then you can outscore the Bulls four times out of seven.

It's a slightly different team this year so we'll see how things go, but I'm not comfortable with the Bulls' scoring options behind Rose. I know they've tried to add more shooters, but again the effectiveness of shooters like Dunleavy and presumably Snell is contingent upon how open they're able to get once defenses break down due to penetration or well-executed screens. Teams that have the size and speed to recover quickly, like Miami, can turn the tables against shooters by making them into one-on-one players, which isn't the Bulls' strength.

They did awesome in the playoffs last year considering the circumstances. But let me ask you this: is it somewhat revealing that the one guy who came up big in the Bulls' five wins has exactly the kind of skill set the Bulls need to trade punches with other contenders? The fact that the backup PG, who was sort of an afterthought anyway when added to the roster, became the face of the Bulls in the playoffs says a lot about the inadequacy of the makeup of the roster behind Rose.

We'll probably have to differ about Boozer; I buy into the whole Boozer as a bum-slayer way of thinking. I agree the Bulls win a lot of individual matchups against the Heat, and Wade's deterioration does a lot to level the playing field between the two teams.

Not a single Spur on that list, and yet they're always in the mix. The New York teams employ %25 of that list, and at least one (NYK) has never been in the mix for the past 14 years or so.

Good God, that's a horrible name.

Why Rose Quarter instead of Rose Garden? It would make it very slightly less horrible.

Hmmmm...kinda makes me wonder what substance he was on. It's not weed, because half the league smokes weed.

5 or 82, won't matter anyway. The Knicks are still good for the semiregular, post-Ewing second round knockout.

I'd do that. Young, presumably open to being a supporting cast player, and he can score.

What direction will ESPN go next? Well, they don’t have much time, as the season begins in three weeks. Stephen A. Smith is an option. Doris Burke has been added to the set on Wednesdays. Could she be moved into the role full-time, and no longer call games? Would the network reach back out to Stan Van Gundy? Seems unlikely. Add a traditional host? Or perhaps just go with the three-man show?

Good god, are these really their best options? Stephen A Smith? Doris Burke? WTF??

I still say a 3 man booth with the Van Gundy brothers would be great TV. ESPN should make that happen.

I think the Van Gundy's would be great together, but the more I think about it the more I'd just like to have each of them as color guys during games. That's what I watch the most, so that's where I want my entertainment to come from.

Plus when a game isn't on, I rarely watch ESPN studio stuff as I immediately flip to NBATV.

You make good points, but I think Hubie Brown is a good listen too for a color guy.

I'd just like to see the 3-man booth with them, because I think the bickering would be off the charts, and make the broadcast that much entertaining. It could bring me back to the days of Bill Walton and Snapper Jones going at it during a 30 point blowout and still keeping me interested.
