She isn't attractive if she is the woman I have seen in a few pictures.

Here as with the Dodgers, Magic Johnson is just a front for Guggenheim Partners, which is worth hundreds of billions of dollars. For all the talk about the poetic justice of putting the Clippers under minority ownership, I don't know how many black Guggenheims you know, but...

I don't see Sterling taking the $100 mil tax hit and selling the team before he dies when if he passes it to his heirs post-mortem the heirs skate on the capital gains tax.

Perhapses:

1) whomever buys it pays a 20% premium over FMV to account for Sterling's capital gains tax bill. So if the team's worth $500 mil, they pay Sterling $600 mil or so.

2) the team gets put into a trust for Sterling's heirs and Sterling and his family cease being active in team affairs. once Sterling dies, the kids xfer the team to Magic or whomever. Both Sterling and his wife might need to pass for that to happen. Maybe if they are getting divorced, Donald Sterling likely is working toward free and clear title to the Clippers without his wife. So as soon as he dies, the team would pass to the heirs with a stepped-up basis. I believe this is what happened with the Pistons franchise and the Davidson kids.

Oh, I'm sure something will be arranged where he no longer has a hand in the team without selling it immediately. People are so ridiculous now, acting like the very fact that there are "proper legal channels" to rid him of the team is just a symptom of how powerful white privilege is. Deadspin commenters talkin' big games these days.

That is a good point CH. NBA will say something at presser tomorrow. IDK what. Go away a year? Then people in the 24 hour cycle will move on to something else and this guy loses nothing. Corleone said hes an old man that had too much wine. A cog in the machine. Everyone with financial interests wants it to just go away. And so it shall.

Apparently, the greatest crime against humanity has been committed by a man (Donald Tokowitz) who doesn't like black people. Tokowitz is typical. His tribe may come across as pro-black and liberal, but the truth is, they consider blacks to be inferior and loathsome. Yes, he's a tribesman, but anything short of worship of blacks (and homos) will have harsh consequences for the "offenders". These two groups must be coddled, praised, protected, and empowered at any and all cost, just what life is like today in Amerika 2.0.

It's amazing and sad how psychologically fragile blacks have been conditioned to become. What he said wasn't even that bad. "Don't associate with black people". Could you imagine if he had used a racial slur? The coverage would have been worse than 9/11.

This is making a mole hill into Mount Everest and taking whomever down in the process. Why isn't his philandering a big story too, we know why that is in this morally bankrupt society.... Here is the Arch Hypocrite with his plastic, home-wrecking, criminally-hideous, horse-toothed, acne-scarred, pie-faced, gum-smiling black/Mexican prostitute, “V. Stiviano”…

Obviously, this creature is far beyond ugly, she's facially deformed and looks far older than 32. Isn’t the only requirement of a gold-digger that they’re supposed to be hot?

The story is so objectionable in so many ways that I get a headache trying to think what there is about it I hate more:

1) A Jewish guy's racism put on White people
2) Mentioning things about black people turned into a hate crime
3) Gold digging nasty slut portrayed as a victim
4) Another chance for the media to gorge itself on one of the few tiny examples of anti-black racism as they ignore the common and huge waves of anti-white racism that occur every day.
5) Endless parade of whiny black wimpy affletes crying about their horrible persecution.
6) Revolting DWF's piling on the bandwagon
7) hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy

I don't know about all of that but she is not what I would expect of LA Billionaire side piece. She is a little gummy but I do love the Mexican/Black mix a lot.

Nevertheless he is a fuckwad and again nothing will happen that even hurts him but he will have to lay low.

And hypocrisy in our new world is everywhere.

It really does amaze me in this current culture that no one has really made a big stink about how Bernsie discusses pieces of meat. We all call him out here but no traction. Can you imagine if someone on ESPN or network tv sports said that?

Interesting that Sterling's becoming a rallying point for the egalitarian income inequality movement buttressing Elizabeth Warren's Presidential hopes on the ballast of Thomas Piketty's "Capital"

I consider many of the things that bernstein says in his job as a broadcaster as offensive as the things Sterling said in what he believed to be a private conversation.

So some old rich guy is an asshole with some racist ideas. Is that really a shocker? Now they're going to force him to sell his team because of some idiotic shit he said to his "girlfriend"? It seems like the media grabs every story and blows it up far beyond what it deserves. And I'm not just talking about this. I mean the wall-to-wall coverage of a missing plane. CNN treated that like 9/11. The fucking "octomom". And on and on and on. The guy is a jackass. Go to his games or don't. Sign with his team or don't. People seem more upset about this than they do about all the murders that happen in Chicago each weekend.

It’s Impossible To Say Whose Voice That Was, But He Made Some Compelling Points
COMMENTARY • Opinion • ISSUE 50•17 • Apr 28, 2014
By Donald Sterling

Image

By now, I’m sure you have heard a tape recently leaked to TMZ and Deadspin, or read a transcript of the recorded conversation, in which an unknown man condemns his girlfriend for associating with black people. It is, in fact, the top story in the news as we speak. However, at this early juncture, we must keep in mind that the the recording of this anonymous individual remains unauthenticated. But while it is as yet impossible to say who that voice actually belongs to, I have to admit that the person in question certainly made some compelling points.

The bottom line is that there’s a significant chance we may never know with certainty the identity of the man in that recording. Audio forensics is an imprecise field and the quality of the recording is not superb. However, the one thing we can say with certitude about that anonymous voice is that it is a voice of reason. Indeed, within moments of listening to the audio, I was struck by the speaker’s commanding tone and his courage to speak difficult truths.

I must say, it is hard to listen to this man’s words and not be left in a state of awe at his evident intelligence and his unassailable rationale.

Though it is not always easy to understand the voices amid the crackling and hissing of the tape—which, again, will likely render it impossible to ever positively identify the speaker—I nevertheless found myself convinced by the carefully elucidated and levelheaded thesis that African-Americans are, in many senses, individuals who should be treated as simple commodities in a marketplace to be used for one’s own monetary benefit. Unfortunately, it appears we likely will never be able to properly attribute such a well-constructed argument for a tiered class system among races—a hierarchy, if you will—to its rightful owner. And that’s a terrible pity.

I would probably say it was when I heard this voice of logic flatly state that black Jews are rightfully treated like dogs that I first thought to myself, “This mystery man sounds like he knows what he’s talking about!” When you listen, what you’re left with more than anything is a sense that these are the words of a sage elder. Whoever he is, and wherever he may be, I’d go so far as to wager he’s been around long enough and seen so much with his observant eyes to know that there are indeed certain social rules we cannot change, and should never even try to change, and that one of those rules prohibits whites from being seen with blacks in public. This is sound reasoning from a clearly one-of-a-kind intelligence, and I for one am deeply moved by his illuminating words.

For all we know, he may be—and I’m speaking purely hypothetically here—a very successful real estate developer just trying to maintain respect and standing amongst his peers. Who’s to say? In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this unknown individual, based on the solidity of his reasoning contained in this tape, also advocated maintaining property values by, say, cleverly arranging his rental process such that black families and families with children could not live in his buildings.

Now, that’s exceptionally inventive and sensible if you ask me.

And, while we can only go by what we hear on this recording, it certainly sounds like he had his female interlocutor’s best interests at heart when he very patiently and magnanimously told her she could sleep with men of whatever race she wanted so long as she kept them off her Instagram and away from his business. By that measure, this man is not only remarkably knowledgeable, but also exceedingly generous. In fact, I listened several times and I cannot believe how inflexible this anonymous woman remained even when he compromised and permitted her to associate with light-skinned blacks like Matt Kemp despite how much—and I’m guessing here—it likely killed him inside.

After listening to that shrill woman stonewall him, one can only speculate that someone like that wouldn’t hesitate to bleed even the wisest and most giving man of his hard-earned fortune while he, in his compassion, attempted to hide the affair from his wife of over 50 years to spare her any hardship. Doesn’t your heart go out to this unknown man who is willing to give so much for others? Wouldn’t this awful woman want to comfort him and care for him as he is clearly of a much higher status than her, and he so beneficently afforded her a luxurious lifestyle? That part of the audiotape is truly upsetting.

On the whole, however, one finds oneself utterly captivated by this anonymous man’s clear-eyed view of the world and his willingness to confront hard truths. Further reflecting upon his views, I find myself hoping with all my heart that this unnamed individual will step forward and reveal himself as the true visionary that he is. However, if I had to guess, this great man will remain anonymous, as most heroes do. I would go so far as to say that, as much as it may pain him, he’s probably following his lawyers’ advice to stay away from NBA games and work from his computer at home—though that, of course, is mere speculation.

So for now, I suppose, we must embrace the fact that we will never know who this figure is. But as an 80-year-old man in his golden years, it brings me great joy to know that there remain men out there like this anonymous hero, who are brave enough to speak the truth and make the world a brighter, more enlightened place.

Generally agree here but would point out, as youre probably aware, that CNN especially but also many other cable "news" outlets are under a mandate to push an "infotainment" agenda. That explains the incessant non-stop coverage of garbage, literally and figuratively. It moved the meters so they, like any other corporate business, kept going with it. Personally I think it's more fruitful to view programs on CNN and its competitors as "tv shows" rather than news programs, even though they don't broadcast NFL games :D

I was going to change that to "I hope people read his article..." but someone came into my office and I clicked on "Submit."

I think Kareem made a lot of excellent points, and I had never heard of Bomani Jones before this morning but heard an interview with him and he also made similar comments. He wrote an article years about things Sterling had done, nobody gave a tiny rat's ass at that time, and he pretty ticked that now people are "outraged" about what he said when plenty of people around the league (owners, players, coaches) as well as advertisers, sponsors, etc. were aware of the kind of person Sterling is and has been.

That was good.

I wish Kareem was less of an asshole, seems he's got a lot to say.

No one can make him sell his team. Knowing his history he is going to fight the NBA and anyone else every step of the way if they try to force him to sell. It just won't happen. He will be the owner of the Clippers until he dies.

While he did share his views in private it confirmed what a lot of people of color believe many whites think. Especially the ones that have any sort of money or power. You'll be friendly with us, sometimes you'll hire us if we are qualified, but at your core, you feel we are beneath you. You do not want to live next to us and believe we should stay in our place and not challenge your superiority in any way. We are unintelligent and not worthy of a seat at the table and this is why you will continue oppressing people of color. Not only will you continue doing it, but we should be thankful for the crumbs you occasionally throw our way.

When we hear the usual cries of "get over it", we say to ourselves that we will whenever it stops. This is something that a lot of people have to put up with on a daily basis. It's hard at times to put ourselves in the shoes of others, but the people who are or have dealt with something similar want to have the conversation. They want to see the person punished in some way. Even though it won't change what happened to them or what they are going through, it will make them feel better seeing that there are not always 2 sets of rules.

Beyond the racial issues it comes down to economics. You have an owner in a multibillion-dollar league that was caught on tape saying ignorant things about 80% of the players. Just as a business owner, you would not want someone like that associated with your brand. It is an unnecessary distraction that could cost the league millions of dollars and possibly more. Making him go away is what is best for business.
