posse has tremendous appeal

Steve Kerr is a grown ass man who coaches a team. Phil is talking about all the hanger ons and clowns that surround Lebron. I doubt Kerr had a posse as a player.

I understand Lebron's clown on twitter can look up a Websters dictionary entry for posse that can be used to push the racist narrative, but language evolves over time. When people talk about posses they are more likely to think of it as a group of friends. Like DiCaprio's pussy posse. Is that a racist label or just some club that I wish I was apart of?

The way Jackson used it was dismissive of a bunch of "grown ass men" all of whom are executives. It's funny that white people always scold blacks about how they need to "build something for yourselves" and then when they do those same white people try to diminish it by calling them "clowns" or "hangers on" or a "posse".

I didn't think there was anything racial about it. I use 'posse' without racial connotations. It is interchangeable with 'crew' or 'squad.'

I'm torn on this one. Steve Kerr's probably not an apt comparison due to his age... but would he refer to, say, Dirk Nowitzki as having a posse?

For what it's worth, we always ask my son what his posse is up to. I get why James might be upset, but we're literally at the point where even common words have these negative undertones.

I don't think "posse" is a racist word. It's the dismissive context in which Jackson used it here. If he had said, "LeBron and his posse rolled into Vegas for the All-Star Game. Man, it was good to see Maverick again", nobody would think anything of it. But he used it in a way that characterized LeBron's friends/professional associates as a bunch of goofs that are just fucking around.

I think the jury's still out on Maverick Carter, no? As far as his actual help to LeBron? I vaguely remember a lot of media considering him to be slime after The Decision turned out to be a faux pas (in terms of how to announce his decision)

If a black coach or executive or player said the exact same thing about the exact same scenario, not one person would have said boo.
