I would probably put Stevens #2. At some point it's "what have you done for me lately" when rating Carlisle. |

I agree on the top 5, but would have a different order. 1. Popp 2 Stevens 3 Carlisle 4. Thibbs 5. Spoelstra |

I'm just glad no one puts Kerr in the top 5 |

Nas wrote: I would probably put Stevens #2. At some point it's "what have you done for me lately" when rating Carlisle. Last year and this year the Mavs have had arguably the least talented team in the NBA. Before last year, his record and resume was unassailable. This year his team is total dogshit and yet is still a better defensive team than almost half the league. He's the goods. |

Nas wrote: I'm just glad no one puts Kerr in the top 5 I like him a lot but it's just impossible to grade him, especially since Walton did so well in his absence. Spoelstra probably wouldnt have made my top 10 when LeBron was on the team. He showed what he was about last season though. |

Kerr would be 6 on my list, but it is really hard to judge him with his team. He could be a top 3 coach or he could be a out of the top 10. Need to see him after this great run of superstars. |

FF used to be a Doc lover too. Never been a fan and he's been getting exposed every year since the last trip to the Finals. |

I guess it was more of "perfect coach for the right team at the right time" a la Ditka than it was Doc actually being a good coach. Still, his Celtics never lost a playoff series in which all five starters were healthy. He did an amazing job with that team. |

Where does D'Antoni fit? He created the offensive system that is all the rage currently. Never been a huge fan but Houston's whole last season was better than the sum of the parts. |

I think you can throw out the Knicks years since they are the Knicks. Can't put a coach in the top 10 if he consistently underachieves in the postseason though. |

Well, I do agree with the general consensus that mainly has Popp, Stephens , Carlisle, Spoelstea in the top 4 but I do think he's 5 or 6 at worst. I think he does a good job juggling minutes and egos and does make some bold moves at times...he's played younger players in key situations like Bell on Xmas day. He keeps everyone engaged |

For me, it comes down to two things: 1) Outside of the LeBron years, he is 234-210 for a .527 winning percentage. Not terrible, but considering some of the players he had at the time, not great. Additionally, in those same 5 seasons, he missed the playoffs twice and went 11-15 in the other 3 postseasons. 2) LeBron thinks he sucks, and when it comes to basketball I trust LeBron. |

I would need a source for #2 and I disagree entirely with your conclusion to #1. |

Sure their voices me a lot, but many times they see things completely selfishly. A good coach is not judged just through the eyes of the best player, but by the entire team |
