If Lebron James loses tomorrow does it tarnish his legacy?

I'm replying to an obvious shitpost but no, not really. His legacy is at worst the second-best basketball player of all time, it's just a matter of whether he can surpass Jordan at this point (I'm betting no). I hope he does lose; if this league is soooo great, the Finals wouldn't be the same matchup four years in a row.

This really isn't a shitpost. It is a legit question.

First playoff season in the last seven with no Wade or Irving. If he goes out first round against a rather mediocre Indiana squad despite having the league's largest payroll then questions should be raised.

Outside of Love there really isn't a bunch there and he's always been known to fade.

Look at those 86-87 and 87-88 Bulls rosters. In a much tougher league Jordan was still able to get out of the first round. Lebron has a much better supporter cast than that. This is primarily for those that want to put him in the Jordan or even top 5 conversation all the time. Top 5 possibly yes No. 2 all time Nah

Only 12 year olds and the basketball stupid think that. You're not going to change that.

Even if he wins tomorrow he’s not getting past Toronto. It’s not gonna be the same finals again.

Another thing about Lebron and his legacy. Crowder, I.T., Wade, Rose and Kyrie sure did look a lot better as players once they got away from his ball stopping ass

I don’t think they beat Cleveland tomorrow, but if they do, they give Toronto a run for their money.

If Oladipo gives them something tomorrow I think they win. They kept it close in Games 4 and 5 without him contributing much offensively

I dunno, if anything a loss may help his legacy since many of his detractors seem to think finals losses are somehow more damning than earlier playoff losses.

I don't really bash him for Finals losses (maybe the Dallas series) but I also don't heap undo praise on him for reaching "7 straight finals" with rosters that should have reached "7 straight finals".

Finals losses are mostly meaningless.

Not talking about you specifically, but I frequently see people treating his finals losses as a bigger indictment of his legacy than Kobe or other guys for instance failing to even sniff the finals on multiple occasions. I actually agree that the consecutive finals appearances stat isn't as impressive as some of the bigger fans make it sound. But it's also not nothing and while the East has largely been weak over that time period, there were still some very good teams defeated in that span.

What were the very good teams?

The 62-win Bulls team is the first one that comes to mind, but I'd also say that the 2013 Pacers probably qualify. And while I'm a bit hesitant to call any of the teams defeated by the Cavs in 2015 as necessarily "very good," I am inclined to classify the series against the Bulls and Hawks as very good wins because of the injuries to Love and Irving that year.

Rose's MVP Bulls team was the one team that he faced that was really legit imo.

That's a pretty bad list especially since the 62 win Bulls got dominated by a Heat team that didn't even win the NBA title.

Except for the 2nd half of Game 1 and the last few minutes of the 4th quarter in Game 5, it was a close battle. The 4-1 result doesn’t tell you that though.

Yeah the Bulls played them tough.

Imo his enduring legacy will be more focused on his off the court efforts and how physically special he is/was. No games going forward will change that unless he leads another team to a title.

Except maybe to add more fuel to the fire that burns to see Magic afforded #2 all time status.

Doesn't have the rings to be put ahead of Kobe, let alone MJ and others, but probably more "talented" than both.

I still see Kobe's 1st 3 rings primarily as Shaq's.

Same. Too bad LBJ's accomplishments are not going to match up to his talent.
