I'm not sure I'm really up for this, but I'll give it a try.

I know this guy, he used to be a teacher at the high school my kids attended. He always dabbled in sports as well, game announcing, play-by-play, reports, etc. At some point, he made the huge jump and left teaching to go full-time, but I never really stopped and asked in what capacity. He still lives in our area, so I see him once in a while, but have not asked what he's up to.

Yesterday, I get an email describing his recent efforts with this website. I am NOT an NBA fan. I like to watch the tourney in March, but would rather follow high school ball. So this won't be my thing at all. But, he asked me to tell "the weird guy I know down the street" who's into the NBA, and I immediately thought of the pants-less cretins that hang out here.

Here's the body of his email. You can try it out if you want, or ignore it. The guy is honestly trying, I can't say if he's any good at all, or if these writers he wants to support are any good. Maybe this will give you a leg up in your online arguments with one of our fellow CSFMB'ers. Feel free to give him feedback. I am not in any way affiliated with this site. I don't expect you to pay anything, there is no promise of cheap, high quality jerseys or free McNuggets.

Dear friends, family & colleagues,

I'm excited to share with you that we've BETA LAUNCHED https://bballwriters.com/ ("The Basketball Writers", TBW)!

This is a life dream project that has taken thousands of hours, barrels of sweat equity and more than a few bucks to get off the ground. But it's all worth it because we're dedicated to changing sports media and, really, the whole internet, forever. For good.

No clickbait, pop-up videos, banner ads, data selling, talking-head hyperbole, unsourced rumors, etc. NONE.

Instead, your subscription gets you the web's most dedicated "NBA universe" coverage (includes WNBA & Euroleague; with G-League, E-Sports and much more to come) while you DIRECTLY SUPPORT the writer of your choice (and still get everyone's great content). We're here to cultivate quality content and treat readers right rather than buying another CEO his third yacht.

If this interests you, please see what we're about and then consider subscribing while we're offering 50% OFF Annual Subscriptions ($36) for a short time (Beta stage ends soon and the price goes up!).

I know many others of you are not huge basketball fans, but just as many of you KNOW plenty of people who ARE.

Please do me a huge favor and forward this on to any friends, family, colleagues, "that weird guy I know down the street" and everyone in between who you think might be in the game! Our biggest challenge during these early days is just getting the word out there, so we need your help!

On behalf of my co-founders, our developers, the seven (and soon to double) writers we're championing, and many thousands of future readers who are going to enjoy a better, more responsible media experience than they've ever had: THANK YOU for thoughts, prayers, forwards, shares, subscriptions, high fives... any and all of it!

Cheers,

Joel

No disrespect to your friend but after scrolling through several blurbs I don't think the writing suggests the content is worth paying for. Maybe there's something extraordinary behind the firewall but that was my first impression.
