There were a few important pieces left out. The evolution of the flagrant foul, the defensive 3 seconds(there was an illegal defense in one of his clips that he claimed wasn't), and also the evolution of refereeing itself, particularly, off the ball.

Meh.. anyone can dig thru old clips and cherry pick specific plays to illustrate whatever point you want to make, and he does.


For example, he points out that hand checking was actually made illegal in the late 70’s.. but doesn’t account for very loose enforcement of the rule throughout the 80’s and 90’s. He just digs thru clips and finds one or two moments where refs called it.


There’s no lying an about an era that you actually watched. You can only be lied to if you didn’t watch it. The bottom line is there was more physicality in those decades than there is now. The zones of today can close on a guy like MJ all they want to but they cannot make contact with him, the defenders are not allowed to step into lanes and physically alter a players momentum and can’t hand check at all while a player is going up for a shot. The rules were looser back in the day on these things. Not every play was a bullshit iso like the moron in the video cherry picks to make his point. Illegal defense was also notoriously difficult to call consistently back then too, and you can bet your ass plenty of teams toed that line. The Bulls were actually one of the teams that did.


It’s a nice video and all, but it’s more propaganda than it is honest. I dismissed it the 1st time I saw it on another forum, and that isn’t going to change. I believe this same guy wrote an article about this crap too if I’m not mistaken.
