Stunned, he must just hate Green. He should have opted in for 31 million and not played all year..then hit FA

Wherever he signs he will rehab for free for a year . I’m guessing he has a back channel max deal in place already .

He will still get a max deal and make more money by opting out and sitting next year.

Good news for Golden State. Now they can use his cap space to shore up their roster until Klay returns, which should be in time for the 2020 playoffs. No point in having KD's dead cap space on their books (or 50% of it, for long term injury) during one of Curry/Green's prime years.

They are going to struggle to make the playoffs this season

Sounds like horrible news for GS, they just lost their best player.

Yep.

Assuming he is out all next year, how does this benefit him? If he exercises the option he gets paid and does nothing (except rehab, which he needs to do regardless wherever he goes). And then after next year he can sign a max deal.

Are people saying another team will sign him NOW to a max deal, which includes next year's lost season? Even if that were the case, it seems like he'd still be shorting himself on the back end.

Yes, someone will give him a max deal this off-season. Any team in the league with enough cap space would do it.

You're probably right, I wouldn't take that risk. Cousins isn't half the player he was before the Achilles tear and it's been 2 years.

Cousins wasn't asked to be the player he was before yet.

It is still less than what GS can pay him after the option year of $31 million. Durant is walking away from MORE money, not less.

And Cousins is a head case, so I don't think any team was willing to risk giving him a max deal coming off the achilles injury.

He might not be walking away at all. Probably will sign a max deal with G.S.

Not to mention "top 15 player" Draymond
Both will be woefully exposed and exploited this season. Time to saddle up Warrior fans as it's about to be one rough ride.

He's going to be a Knick, and he will melt under the pressure from the New York media because he is wayyy too sensitive.

The last time the Knicks gave a max deal to an injured guy it worked out well.

Either way, Knick fans lose and lose loudly, so it's a win for everyone else.

It's probably good for Golden State that he's off the books. How bad would it be for him to not use the option and sit on the sidelines to collect a check?

I generally think that a lot of the time players who sign big contracts underperform. Who knows what he will play like after injury?
