They have to have some type of internal date. I would guess if they are not back in practicing somewhere June 1st it is all over. After the Atlanta Hawks were unwilling to immediately reopen the franchise's practice facility for players to return for limited workouts, the NBA sent a memo to teams pushing back its reopening date to May 8. The league had been planning to reopen facilities beginning with the Hawks, because the state of Georgia had been among the first states to loosen stay-at-home orders amid the coronavirus pandemic. "We are going to wait and see what happens in the state over the couple weeks," Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk told ESPN. "If there's a positive response, we'll slowly open up. If it's a negative response, we'll make sure our staff and players remain healthy." According to the memo, the usage of the facility would be limited to no more than four players at any one time and no coaches would be allowed to participate. Players remain prohibited from using non-team facilities, such as fitness centers. The NBA said it could push back the opening date further "if developments warrant." |

If I were a team that had maxed out or nearly maxed out my lottery odds I'd refuse to play. |

I don't see how the NBA or NHL could do anything except come back for just a couple games, and go straight into the playoffs. And even then, a couple rounds would probably have to be shortened to best of five. You can't really play the NBA Finals/Stanley Cup Final on Labor Day, and then expect to start up the new season 7 weeks later. |

Listening to Simmons podcast, the NBA needs to get to 70 games for owners not have to refund the RSNs who give them a large chunk of their money. |

NBA season is dead, NHL season is dead, MLB season is dead, it's all dead. Who's even going to be able to afford to go to games anymore when meat prices are going to quintuple? |

I blame the NBA for this entire pandemic. Played in China. Likely brought it back. And then when a few players test positive the entire world shuts down. Disband the league. |

Well we can be certain the NBA will come back again at some point. Not the case for many collegiate athletic programs, if anything we should eulogizing them and the role university sports played in the USA's athletic prowess. |

The players get a year of service time regardless. If you are the top tier free agents and veteran pitchers, why risk getting hurt during a 50-80 game season. Obviously owners want to recoup money but fans won’t be attending so how much do they stand to gain? It all sucks but it’s ova...it’s all ova... |

We passed that date a while ago. NBA just doesn't want to admit it yet. Even if they somehow came back they would need some form of training camp, at least a couple weeks worth. And then they'll need to either play some practice games or just finish out the regular season. They definitely will not jump right into playoffs or even jump right back into the regular season. YOu have to treat every player as if they are coming off a major injury and haven't been able to work out for several months. They are going to need a gradual ramp up of activity before being ready for NBA game speed, let alone playoffs. As it's going right now, we're probably looking at July at the minimum before we have any chance of seeing 5v5 sports and teams practicing together. And longer than that before we start to see any sort of consumer confidence in traveling. Even if they decide to bring every team to Vegas and play the rest of the season there they will still have to worry about hotel staff, event staff, etc. what happens if they bring everyone back and someone gets the virus? Shut it all down again? That would be a disaster. League would be better off calling it a season and start working on plans to come back next season. They're going to need time to make contingent plans for all sorts of scenarios going forward anyway. What happens if they start up and someone gets sick again? They need plans in place for how to deal with that going forward. Until there is a vaccine this is going to be a complete shit show. |

And at this time it’s not about “science.” It’s largely driven by public perception and being on the “right side of history.” Agree or disagree, that’s where we are with all this. |

plus say they did start back up. Had some practice, played X number of games , then went into the playoffs Whoever actually won the title would have an asterisk by it And every team that lost a playoff series would cry and moan about the disrupted season affecting them. It wouldn't be worth it |

No baseball, no basketball despite the data that 99.9% out of 1000 people who are infected and have no chronic illness will survive. MLB and NBA have about 1100 professionals. If all get exposed, who's the lucky guy? Trae Young. He looks sickly |

Could the best play be cancelling the season and reopening the CBA for the owners? |
