Or will No Great Shakes trash everyone but Trae Young when they do not?

Signed Bogdanovic last night
Gallinari previously. Playoff Rondo and my guy Dunn.

Is this the year of The Hawk?

I’m rooting for them.

Exciting young team that has some depth now.

I couldn't be happier about the past week.

Last year at this time our centers were Alex Len and Damian Jones. Now we have Clint Capela and Onyeka Oknogwu. Last year our 3 highest paid players were Evan Turner, Allen Crabbe and Chandler Parsons. Now they are Bogdon Bogdonovich, Gallinari and Capela.

Last year we ran out Deandre Bembry as the second string PG for periods of time. After that we picked up Teague. Now we have Rondo and Dunn backing up Trae.

Collins missed 25 games with suspension last year.

Reddish made a huge jump at the end of last season.

Last year Trae was 2nd in the league in setting up teammates for good scoring opportunities and finished 2nd in the league in assists despite his team being dead last in the league in 3pt shooting. This year he has Bogdan and Gallo on the wings. No reason he can't hit double digit assists this year.

I'm so fired up for this season. Gonna be some growing pains early on with all the new faces and young guys trying to blend together, but when it comes together this is gonna be a team.

Don't let him bait you Lion! That's something the old you would do. The new you can't be bothered by trolls in this section who obviously don't watch the sport and are just here to get noticed and push buttons. Just ignore him.

we're gonna make this section hum with good and spirited bball talk all season long! Say it with me!

I'm good with that. You know we are going to disagree about this all season  . They should be able to peel the Magic 8th seed spot at least but I don't think they will. Interestingly I think it may come down to them and the Bulls but I kind of want to see the Bulls miss so that they can get something out of the lottery. Supposedly the draft is supposed to be rather deep next year.

It should be really deep if High School seniors and big time college freshmen are both made available.

Like nothing we’ve seen before.

So you’re def right LTG.

Even a late lottery pick could potentially be very valuable in this scenario.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Hawks, but I wouldn't be surprised if they fail to live up these expectations. That's a lot of new players to incorporate into a team with a very limited training camp. Wouldn't surprise me if it takes a long time before they get it figured out, if they get it figured out. I'm definitely not going to beat my chest today and say they are a guaranteed playoff lock or any better than ORL or any of the other teams right around that spot.

Next year's draft is loaded and might include a new rule where high school players are included....or maybe that's in 2 years?

Got a couple names for you to think about. Emoni Bates who I'm sure you already heard of. And Chet Holmgren who is the top senior this year. 7'1, 183 pound white kid from Minneapolis. Looks like beanpole, but plays like point guard shot blocking Kevin Durant. Those two matched up on ESPN a couple weeks ago and both were great, but Chet definitely won the battle. I'll post the link to the highlights.

if seniors can get into this draft then Chet Holmgren is definitely the #1 pick as it stands right now. My jaw dropped when i watched him play the way he does with the frame he has.

It's really exciting and compelling to consider if the Atlanta Hawks are one of the best eight teams in the Eastern Conference. Totally needed its own thread. And pointing out that it's like Bernstein and Goff is completely out of line.

You're the same dupe who finds the Twitter ramblings of Julie DiCaro "compelling". No one who dares comment in that boring ass thread should ever critique another post or thread on this board. Ever!

yea, its really crazy watching him play. He also plays really tough for such a skinny player. No fadeaways, his first instinct is to attack and take it strong which as you know is a great sign in a player. Has a bit of a mean streak too it looks like.

There's been some odd rumblings about Collins wanting a max contract and ATL not wanting to give it to him, but I'm not buying that. I don't think Gallo has any bearing on what happens to Collins. Gallo was told when he signed that he would be coming off the bench and he was cool with that. I think it's a 3 year contract with only something like $3 million guaranteed in year 3.

Also, Collins can move over and play small ball 5 at times which would allow more PT for Gallo.

I'd be very upset if they got rid of Collins over a few dollars. What's the point of hitting on a later first rounder if you're not going to pay the guy when he blows away his expectations?

Looking at a rotation like this...

Capela/Okongwu/Fernando
Collins/Gallo
Reddish/Hunter or Hunter/Reddish
Bogi/Huerter
Trae/Rondo/Dunn

Only reason that I ask is because Collins is terrible defensively too like Trae. If they pay both huge Money is that a recipe for winning in the future? You can't have your two highest paid/ best players also be your two worst defensive players and expect to win. That may be why they are hesitant to pay Collins that kind of dough. I'd heard similar things about him wanting max or close to max money. I don't know about that one
