Hawks beat Phoenix 105-96. 4 different Hawk players got 10+ rebounds....Marvin Williams shoots 10-14 from the field (20 and 11), Al Horford grabs 13 rebounds, Josh Smith gets 22 and 11, and, off the bench, Josh Childress gets 19 and 10.

Very impressive win beating Phoenix, even with Stoudemire out tonight.

Atlanta is now 2-2 (both wins at home, both losses on the road)....

I like the Hawks. I don't know how many games they'll win or how good they are, but they're fun to watch.

That's why they are my Eastern Conference Adopted Team....lotta fun to watch. They are young, and are probably a year and a point guard away (Acie Law may be the answer), but very entertaining.

I didn't laugh at you Nas. You could have told me that you liked the Washington Generals to win the NBA finals and I wouldn't have laughed at you.

I picked them to win between 35-40 games and be right out of the playoffs. I may have underestimated them. They have a ton of talent.

That was a great game last night. I was worried at first because it didn't look like Joe Johnson was on. Also wondering what happened to Salim Stoudamire, but good to see him in there too. And really impressed with Josh Childress last night. He had some great putbacks and really hustled. Has always been inconsistant, but I like him a lot coming off the bench.

Great, great, win. And man, what a tough schedule for the Hawks to start out- Mavs, then Pistons & Nets on the road, Suns, and now Celtics Friday night.

And Nas, I didn't see where you predicted that but I'm right there with you guys. They still had an outside shot at the playoffs last year toward the end, they weren't too far out. This team could surprise a lot of people. To me, they're the most entertaining team out there right now, especially since the Warriors are depressing me.

I'll admit, I'm late to the ATL party but I like 'em. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes down to ATL vs. Chicago for an 8th seed (assuming Chicago is even in the playoff picture).

Struggling a bit now...Joe Johnson has been shooting pretty bad of late. Still really impressed with Marvin Williams and Al Horford so far. I hope Pachulia coming back doesn't take away many minutes from Horford.

It's early, but they ran into a Washington team yesterday that was due for a win. This team still struggles big time with shot selection, and their point guard play is going to be spotty.

Yeah, I know they want Lue in there for a 'veteran presence', but I'd almost rather have Law in there for more minutes. Salim Stoudamire blows, he takes way too many shots for a PG and doesn't make a very high percentage of them.

Could be trouble- Smith & Law went out with injuries last night

Another great game for Horford, 13 and 13

Horford is a rebounding monster - he's been doing a great job on the board, and I think the scoring will come from him as the season goes on. With Pachulia coming back, he went back to the bench yesterday, but he's expected to get more minutes at PF.

How serious are the injuries to Josh Smith and Acie Law ? I'm assuming day-to-day, but haven't really heard much as of yet.

Both of them claim they aren't serious, according to ESPN, but we'll see. Law couldn't even walk off the court by himself

are u guys still on the bandwagon? not a lot of talk since they lost to the sonics and the bucks.

Quote:
Atlanta will start to fall. maybe they make the play-offs but the second half of the season wont be nearly as good as the first half for Atlanta. I say this because veteran teams tend to pick up their momentum in the second half of the season. the first half they come in and are hardly ever in as good a shape as the younger teams.

They are average on offense and bad on defense. They are currently 11th in the east (actually they're only tied for 11th)! I doubt they improve much as the season goes on and they are already bad. The Bulls and Heat are 2 of the 3 teams still below them. I bet both teams pass them up. The Knicks are probably the worst team in the east right now but atlanta will give them a run for their money by the end of the season.

My intention was to take the wheels off the bandwagon (or at least steal one of the horses).

edit:i'll give them a little credit. law was injured vs mil and sea. smith was injured at sea.

I'm still on, but I've said it many times - they are young, and don't have a point guard yet which is going to lead to a lot of bad shots....Defensively, I think they can't wait to get back on offense.

Yeah, I mean they don't have a lot of PG play as it is, and last night they were without Law, Stoudemire AND Lue...They had to go with Anthony Johnson a lot (ugh) and Mario West. That's going to hurt you. Plus they're playing one of the best teams in the league. It's hard to be that disappointed about getting beat by the Spurs....The Sonics game though hurt. But what are you going to do, that was an incredible shot by Durant, you have to just give him credit for that. It wasn't like they let him waltz in and dunk it, he heaved a long 3 and it went in in double OT. I guess you could argue they shouldn't be going to double OT against a team like the Sonics and that's fair I suppose.

And as far as your defensive comment BD, I kind of agree- to me, a lot of times it looks like they're just going for the block, that they allow entry passes to easy and allow penetration because they're going to contest it. Obviously Smith is a great shot blocker but too many times you're going to get beat or get called for a foul.

I still have faith they'll turn it around. I read some Bill Simmons column the other day in which he suggests they try and trade for Andre Miller, makes a lot of sense to me. Probably wouldn't break the bank to get him, and what use to the rebuilding Sixers have for an aging PG? It would be a tremendous upgrade.

as far as the seattle game goes, u pretty much hit it on the botton. they shouldnt have been that close (if they were really a good team). it was an ugly ass shot from durant that won it for seattle but its not like atlanta would have won if he missed. it still would have been tied. i think seattle is the same caliber team as atlanta though, so i dont see it as a fluke. against the spurs, they couldnt even get duncan off the bench. he relaxed with only 22 minutes. he let his guards do the work.

obviously it would help atlanta short term to sign andre miller but they might as well consider themselves in rebuilding mode. if their considering themselves contenders then they are mistaken. whats their cap room looking like? any long term commitments? atlanta could be hurting for a while.

I was wondering when this was going to get bumped. I was thinking about doing it myself with them in the 4 seed now.

I'm not jumping off the bandwagon- I'm driving it

Getting good PG play from Anthony Johnson, which you really can't count on though. I still think to make a legitimate playoff push they need to get a good veteran PG, specifically Andre Miller. They have an excess of young talent to make it happen

I think Durant's going to be a runaway for ROY mainly because he's the man on his team and is going to be able to average 20+ just be jacking up shots. He's shooting 40% right now. But I think Al Horford should be given strong consideration. He's playing a major role on a good team and could possibly end up averaging a double-double for a rookie. I really like his game

Tough loss at the Cavs last night. I thought they were going to pull that one out

Also, two random observations:

-Austin Carr is probably the worst color guy in the NBA. Man is that guy brutal. Almost makes Redd Kerr sound eloquent

-I know we're in the day and age of cutting away from game action to show meaningless stats on half the screen or interviews in the stands with player wifes, but one thing that drives me absolutely insane is when they show a player who just made a basket running down on the other end, at the expense of game action. I can't tell you how many times that happened in this game- 10 maybe? Look, I'm watching the game- I see who made the shot, I don't need to see a close-up of their sweaty mug. Sometimes a team is already in their set or getting ready to take a shot when they finally get back to the game. Maddening.

Wow. That's been going on since at least the 70s. I've never heard that complaint before.
