Dirk will be out 2 weeks with a leg injury. Dallas is in trouble, and could possibly slip out of the playoffs now.

I bet they are regretting that Kidd trade right about now. Old man who cant play. Devin Harris is much better at this point.

Dirk's injury looked pretty damn nasty on the replays. If he's only out for two weeks as it has been suggested, they can consider themselves fortunate. However, there's a Denver team that's been playing some good ball lately. Unfortunately Dallas could find themselves out of the playoffs only two years after reaching the NBA Finals. They have to start playing with a sense of urgency RIGHT NOW or it's over for them.

EG, you make a good point. I'm not sure if Kidd is having trouble learning the system or fitting in with the players he has around him, but you're right. He's looked a step slow since returning to Dallas.

Avery Johnson is an idiot. Kidd is still a top tier PG, but he's a terrible shooter. So Avery always benches him because he thinks he needs offense in the game. What he is too stupid to realize is Kidd makes everyone around him better and gets them easy buckets. Dampier is twice as good offensively when Kidd is in the game. Until Avery grows a brain, I see Dallas's playoff chances slipping.

Stack has been playing some great ball lately though. The talent is still there, even without Dirk.

I agree with your Avery points Farvio. You can even go back to the last time Dallas & San Antonio met and Avery had Kidd sitting on the bench in the final minute when Dallas needed a basket. They couldn't get a single shot off in the last 30 seconds.

Some of Avery's game decisions, especially down the stretch, have been poor. This is more upsetting seeing as how Dallas is my favorite team. Oh well, I still have Utah if things don't go right...

He also didnt help his cause by running onto the court afte rStack attacked Manu and getting a T during crunch time. I have been very underwhelmed by Avery's coaching ability so far. The only noticeable thing I have seen different since he took over for Nellie is they play harder defensively, but I might even attribute that more to Dirk's evolution as a player than Avery's coaching.

Avery also totally got hosed by Don Nelson in the playoffs last year. Tell me how a #1 seed should have the pace and style of the game dictated to them by the #8 seed. Avery went small and tried to match up instead of playing their style and got hosed.

I think Avery was trying to prove a point to Nellie. It didnt work. I hear Cuban loves Avery, but I hope that doesnt get in the way of him objectively evaluating the job he has done when this season is over. Dallas has the talent to win a title, just not the coach, IMO. Baku, I know you still think Dirk is a choker, he might be, but I think he has vastly improved his all around game and especially his defense. I think he can be the best player on a championship team. I just dont think it works with this current crop of players and coaching staff.

It's possible if they surrounded him with different pieces they would be a championship contender, I agree. Not that the pieces they have aren't good, but maybe something that's a better fit. I just think he's a player like McGrady, someone who will put up big numbers and get you to the playoffs, but once there isn't going to do much. And more than McGrady, I felt Dirk really got mentally shook during the playoffs. Certainly greats like Jordan had bad playoff games, but they didn't let that affect them the rest of the series like Dirk did against Golden State.

Dirk did have a great Game 7 against the Spurs a couple years ago. That sorta changed my perception of him, although last year's playoffs had me confused again.
