Some thoughts so far on the playoffs

Greg Oden is capable of playing very well defensively but he's a very dumb player and is going to need to start playing smarter.

Rondo is officially an upper-echelon PG and should be recognized as such. I got ripped last postseason for saying he will be one but he's clearly as valuable if not moreso to the Celtics than Pierce and Allen.

Dwight Howard is a beast but he needs to develop a better all around game. He still doesnt make his teammates better. Orlando wont go far till he does.

Aaron Brooks could be a real good player or he could turn into a Marbury type that doesnt make the offense run smoothly and doesnt make his teammates better. Hopefully he wont.

The Celtics will make the ECF, and stretch the Cavs to at least six games. Rondo will have a monster postseason overall.

Andre Miller is showing why any contenders(Portland??) need to take a serious look at him this summer

Cavs and Lakers will easily make the Finals. Id be shocked if this doesnt happen.

some further thoughts (really good to see you around FF)

-Tim Duncan is just off....i know i'm going to take an immense amount of heat for saying the Mavs would get swept...and I think that really says something. even without Manu, I thought they'd take care of things. I know he's not 100% but he looks pretty bad.

-what the hell happened to New Orleans? I know they won today but they are not long for this series. horrible decision making all game long. when you're desperate enough to be using Sean Marks this much, you're in trouble

-i would find it incredibly ironic if Houston advanced past Portland w/o McGrady.....

-Detroit really need to re-tool and go young....it's an odd mix

-don't really know what to say about my Hawks tonight, but I hope they can contain Wade like the did in game 1. even so, I keep thinking even if they do advance they'd have a date w/ LeBron in round 2, which I am certainly not looking forward to as they got their shit handed to them at the Q this year, as most did.

I wish I was over their watching that game at the Q as it was fun as hell to watch some playoff ball at your place last season. Your point about Marks is well taken. Agreed with Detroit, just an akward bad combo of players.

Houston.Portland IMO is a series where a team isnt ready and one will never be ready. Artest and Battier are there. My common and oft-repeated criticism on this board of Yao is he doesnt show up in playoffs. He got owned by Oden(which is really an unfortunate statement) in game 3 and got bailed out by his guards. The Lakers wont be challenged on their trip to the finals

funny thing about the portland series. my friend out of nowhere, who could care less about basketball goes..."fuck houston, fuck them...fuck houston."

over and over. that's all they could say.

i'm like...is it a fever over there? didn't think anyone cared...

Good. I love Dwight but there was no call for throwing the elbow, especially for a superstar and a team leader. He should be above stuff like that.

(btw i am on the portland bandwagon...for my buddy that lives out there.)

That's exactly what I've been thinking Zack. There has been a lot of high drama involved in most of the Eastern series (exception: Cleveland/Detroit), but the Western series have been predictable and kinda...blah. There have been a lot of blowouts on the Western side of things too (a 58-point loss? WTF?). Not many competitive, down-to-the-wire games.

Even I have to admit that Josh Smith dunk attempt at the end of the game was a little out of line

It was. And if he were playing in the 70s or 80s, somebody would knock him on his ass in the next game.

Or against Erick Dampier

That was a DB move. Thats a weird series like the Spurs/Hornets last season in that its a 7 game series that none of the games have been too close.

Another boring game in the Hawks/Heat series. This was one of the lamest 7 game series Ive seen in awhile(Sorry Bagels). Hopefully the Hawks play up to their potential and can make the series against the Cavs interesting.

Yeah it should be. I still dont know what to make of these teams. It was obvious by my playoff predictions I havent been able to watch alot of games. Last year I got every series winner right except the Spurs in the WCF. This year Ive been wrong on almost every series except the obvious ones. I still dont think either team is all that good, although I would suspect Denver is probably the 2nd best team in the West.

The polar opposite of the Bulls/Celtics series.

Does anyone think the Hawks will win more than one game against the Cavs?

I don't, Bagels, but tonight could be a trap for Cleveland. The Cavaliers have had about a week off since disposing of the Pistons. Even though they were really, really good at home at Quicken Loans Arena during the regular season and in their first round series, the Cavaliers hopefully were paying attention to the Lakers out West late last night. They had 7 days off since sending the Jazz home for the summer, and the Rockets stole home court with their Game 1 road win at STAPLES Center.

Mavs get screwed on a no call tonight. The refs call 61 fouls on the night, but when they foul intentionally, they don't call it. Then 2 hours after the game they have the nerve to say they missed it. I would be suspending the ref that missed it, since they said he missed one last year in the Playoffs with Derek Fisher.

that really is terrible. the series is essentially over now. what a huge swing. i really think the lakers-nuggets series is going to be entertaining though

Horrible call at the end of that game. The Mavs have a right to be pissed off.

Poor Rockets, poor Yao. I had my fingers crossed for a Nuggets/Rockets conference finals.

I couldn't even read Richard Justice's column in the Chronicle this morning when I saw the title was something like "Rockets had a great season..."

What a game for a Houston homer! :D
