Just curious as I was too young to remember, how much of those Piston championships were because of him? Im just saying those teams were unbelievably talented with Dumars, Thomas, Salley, Laimbeer, etc.

TB had a roar about Daley yesterday. I am not old enough to remember the "Bad Boy Teams" or the coaching of Chuck Daley, but it sure sounds like they all would have been very interesting, to say the least.

A lot. He managed their egos and got them to play together. They had a lot of talent but he got them to play as good as they did as well as the dream team.

Agreed. You can have a team with all the talent in the world but you have to have a coach who is able to earn their respect and get them to buy into his philosophy. Daily did that.

Talent alone can't win a championship...it can get you close, but the better-coached teams always win.

Wait a minute, according to North,Phil Jackson and his nine rings sucks! I'm a North guy,but I always thought he was nuts talking crap about Phil. People also didn't give Phil credit for maybe being the most argumenitive coach in Chicago history! I think he had Ditka beat by a country mile when it came to arguing with the refs!

Well, Mike North is an idiot. I definitely give Phil Jackson credit for being able to get the most out of those Bulls teams. It's pretty dumb to say, "Anybody could've won with Michael Jordan, etc." The fact is, only Phil Jackson won with Michael Jordan. Would the Bulls have won titles under another coach? Possibly, but it's no guarantee. To be able to gain the respect of egomaniacs like Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, etc; is a feat worth acknowledging. Not just any coach could've done that.

Amen to that! I also think Dick Motta did one hell of a job coaching a Bulls team with maybe one or two great players but no superstars. Playing against the Bucks with Jabbar (Alcindor back then) & Oscar Robertson,The Lakers with Chamberlain & Jerry West just to name a few. Yet,the Bulls manged to win 50 or more games back then.
