If you have read it, what did you think? If you haven't read it, you should. The book serves as an entertaining "time capsule" for the post-millennial NBA. I had never been much of a fan of the writers' blog, www.freedarko.com, and some of the writing is a bit overwrought, but these guys know what they're talking about and are comfortable making a few giant leaps of metaphor in order to prove their points about certain players. Worth a look for: - the art - the enthusiasm - Gilbert Arenas foreword (maybe I was too young or had blinders on, but I was surprised by how many current stars point to Penny Hardaway as their greatest inspiration [in the league] coming up) - the "People's Champs" section (Carmelo Anthony, Yao Ming, Rasheed Wallace), which I can't wait to read to my future kids For a sample, check out the page of stats/reactions they've got up here: http://freedarkobook.com/stats.html |
