I have very mixed emotions about this

As a Bulls fan, this is good news based on the rumor that LBJ wanted JJ as a running mate, so if he's taken out of play that hurts NY.

As a Hawks fan, I'm not sure I want him back. He choked in the Magic series, made some disconcerting comments about Atlanta and as I've stated before while I do like him as a player he is just not a max player. On the other hand though, like HOVA and I were discussing with the Bucks - not a whole lot of free agents are going to come to Atlanta. So if they lose him it's not like they'd be getting Bosh or other big name to replace him. So in the sense that he's better than nothing, maybe it's good. I'm just thinking they might be better off starting Crawford and using the $$ from JJ to add more depth.

And from a general NBA standpoint, I think it will be interesting if he's the first person to sign. As in I think at least my thinking and most is that LBJ will start the dominoes falling and they're all waiting for him. But if JJ, Bosh and others sign first it will be interesting to see if that affects LBJ

This is great for JJ. Atlanta really showed they are willing to overpay (and possibly kill their chances in the future) to keep their own. It's bad news for the Knicks and possibly great news for the Bulls. This is the 2010 version of Ben Wallace signing with the Pistons.

Yeah I agree with you about ATL management. I'm not sure this is the right move but not for the reasons you think (he's going to fall off sharply past 30)

I just think the team has pretty much maxed out where they are - as a 2nd/3rd tier team that will make the 2nd round and possibly challenge in the conf. finals but that's it. No way they're a title team as constructed and they've showed that. So inking JJ for a long deal only cements that, but like you said limits their future and what they can do to add to that. they've got Josh Smith locked up for awhile but Horford is going to want a decent deal too when his time comes.

However if it helps bring James to the Bulls there's no question how i feel

$$ don't bother me as much as the years.

CBS reporting this @ 6/$120 .... ridiculous contract for a guy who will be 35 at the end of this deal.

Goff is right, when he says that money is more important than winning, to Johnson.

Not many people in his position would pass on that type of money. A few months ago a lot of people didn't expect him to get a max deal.

While Joe Johnson's no longer an option in NBA free agency, why was it former Bull Jamal Crawford always took the last shot for the Hawks?

Crawford was better with the game on the line. Another steal by Krause. Got him for Chrim Mihm

Jamal never met a shot he didn't like. He also never met a defense he did like.

 Couldn't agree more. Some games that could lead to 50 points and other game it may get you 7.

JJ is not worth a max, but ATL cant replace him if he leaves.

I think Crawford would have done a good job stepping in.

The 50-point game list is an odd one b/c you get streaky guys like Crawford, great outside shooters like Dale Ellis, Glen Rice and even Dana Barros, a ton of HOFs and then some head-scratchers like Cedric Ceballos and Charles Smith.

But every player who has scored 61 points or more in a game is or will be in the HOF (with the exception of Tracy McGrady, who was on that trajectory before all the injuries).

I don't know why this became such a popular thought. Yes Crawford did take and make quite a few 'last shots' but Johnson took plenty as well. Despite the last 2 games of the playoffs where he choked, to imply that Johnson isn't a clutch player capable of taking a final shot is ridiculous

Way too much money for a guy who didn't show up in the playoffs and then calls out the fans :( The free agent era Latrell Sprewell :x
