This doesn't sound too promising..... hope he turns up. He played at the University of
Memphis right before I showed up on campus.

CNN) -- Police in Collierville, Tennessee, are investigating the disappearance of a former professional basketball player and say "there is a high level of concern" in the search to find him.

Lorenzen Wright, 34, who played 13 seasons in the NBA, has not been seen or heard from since July 18 when he visited his ex-wife and their children in Collierville, near Memphis, investigators said.

Collierville police spokesman Mark Heuberger told CNN that Wright's mother reported him missing on July 22. "We're taking it very, very seriously," Heuberger said, "and there is a high level of concern."

"His mom made the report because she felt it was unusual that he did not contact his children for an extended period of time, that's what made her prompt to contact the police," he added.

"This is not like him," Wright's sister, Savia Archie, told CNN Tuesday. "I haven't talked to my brother in nine days. He doesn't go without talking to family.

"I'm trying to keep my faith in the world and that he's not in trouble and hopefully he will come home. He's my big brother. Without him, there's no me."

Heuberger cautioned that there is no indication that Wright was the victim of a crime. "A red flag has not come up yet, at least (as) of today, that suggests any harm has come to him," Heuberger said Tuesday

"Our detectives have talked to a lot of people -- former coaches, players, sports agents -- and continue to follow leads given by the public," Heuberger said, "and we're working very close to the family."

Archie, Wright's sister, described her brother as a loving son, father and uncle. "My sister had a baby shower last Sunday and he was supposed to come," she said. "Something had to have happened."

The 6-foot-11-inch Wright, who lives in Atlanta, was a forward/center for several teams during his professional basketball career. He played with the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings. He was with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008-2009, his last year in the NBA.

Wright, who has six children, completed his degree at the University of Memphis in 2003, according to the official NBA website.

Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 901-853-3207.

A cold-hearted cynic might say that Lorenzen Wright was missing throughout his 13 years in the league ...

Is Bison Dele's brother still on the loose?

That is true, Wright was a huge bust. Dele's brother killed himself back in 2002. He
injected himself with insulin and went into a coma.

Apparently he went over the handlebars in a dirtbike accident. I hadn't heard about this either.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police in the Memphis suburb of Germantown are reviewing how a 911 call from Lorenzen Wright's cell phone was handled as authorities investigate the shooting death of the former NBA player.

Rodney Bright, Germantown's deputy police chief, says department officials did not know about the call until Tuesday, eight days after it was received by a dispatcher in the early morning hours of July 19.

Bright says he can't discuss details of the call, which has been turned over to Memphis police.

The Commercial Appeal newspaper, which first reported the call, reported that a garbled male voice can be heard on the call using an expletive, and then as many as a dozen gunshots are heard in succession.

Wright was fatally shot and left in the woods in southeast Memphis. His body was discovered Wednesday, six days after he was reported missing by family. Wright was last seen at about midnight July 18, a few hours before the emergency call was made.

The 6-foot-11 Wright played 13 seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and most recently the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wright left the University of Memphis early for the NBA, and the Clippers made him a lottery pick with the No. 7 selection overall.

He averaged 8 points and 6.4 rebounds in 778 career games.

Wright leaves behind six children, his mother, Deborah Marion, and his father, Herb Wright, who coached his son from a wheelchair after he was shot in the spine. Lorenzen Wright's 11-month-old daughter, Sierra, died in March 2003 of sudden infant death syndrome.

Longtime friend Kevin Nelson remembered Wright as a well-meaning person who treated people with respect.

"He was a people person, he never met a stranger," Nelson said. "It really hit us hard."

Nearly 200 people had turned up Wednesday at the crime scene after hearing that police might have found Wright's body. Among them was former NBA star Penny Hardaway, who played at Memphis two years before Wright and heard the news from a friend.

"I cried. The emotions hit me immediately. It's just sad because we lost a good person and a brother," Hardaway said.

It's a great accomplishment. I mean the guy tried his best. That has to be worth at least a trophy that can go inside his casket. Along with the job of the operator.

An attorney says three armed men looking for Lorenzen Wright showed up at the home of the former NBA player's ex-wife about six weeks before he was found shot to death.

Lawyer Gail Mathes says her client, Sherra Wright, was afraid for herself and her children so kept quiet about the encounter until Monday. She then alerted police in the Memphis suburb of Collierville.

Mathes says the men, dressed in sport coats with weapons in view, threatened Sherra Wright and her family if she told anyone about the visit. Mathes' account was first reported by The Commercial Appeal.

Lorenzen Wright's body was found Wednesday in woods in southeast Memphis. He had been missing since July 18, when he left his ex-wife's house around midnight with an unidentified person.

Police detectives in Memphis searched the home and backyard of ex-NBA player Lorenzen Wright's ex-wife on Sunday, WPTY-TV in Memphis reported.

Lorenzen Wright's body was found Wednesday in the woods in southeast Memphis. He had been missing since July 18, when he left his ex-wife's house around midnight with an unidentified person. Police have ruled his death a homicide.

Detectives spent several hours at the home of Sherra Wright, including a lengthy search of a backyard grill and fire pit, according to the report. Her neighbors told police they had seen smoke coming from the backyard the night Lorenzen Wright went missing and thought it strange because it was one of the hottest nights of the summer.

Last week, Sherra Wright's lawyer, Gail Mathes, said three armed men looking for Lorenzen Wright showed up to the ex-wife's house about six weeks before he was found shot to death. The men, dressed in sport coats with weapons in view, threatened Sherra Wright and her family if she told anyone about the visit, Mathes said.

The 6-foot-11 Wright, who starred at the University of Memphis, played 13 seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wright's mother is criticizing the way police in suburban Germantown handled the 911 call that came in from Wright's phone the night he died, The Commercial Appeal reported. The newspaper, which first reported the call, said a garbled male voice on the call can be heard using an expletive, and then as many as a dozen gunshots are heard in succession.

Rodney Bright, Germantown's deputy police chief, said department officials did not know about the call until Tuesday, eight days after it was received by a dispatcher in the early morning hours of July 19.

"They did drop the ball," said Wright's mother, Deborah Marion, according to the report. "How do you call 911 and hear shots and nobody reacts?"

Marion said that once, when her grandchildren were playing with the phone and called 911, three police officers showed up at the door to investigate.

"How do three police show up for a 911 hang-up, but nobody does anything when you have a 911 and shots? Somebody's got to answer for this. I want somebody prosecuted because this is not right," she said, according to the report.

Wright leaves behind six children, his mother and his father, Herb Wright, who coached his son from a wheelchair after he was shot in the spine. Lorenzen Wright's 11-month-old daughter, Sierra, died in March 2003 of sudden infant death syndrome.

Wright's family and the NBA's Grizzlies are hosting a memorial service for Wright, a Memphis native, on Wednesday at FedEx Forum.
