I don't think they will do it.

I think they will probably win somewhere near 65-67 games.

Did I miss the part where Jordan in his prime joined the Heat? Fuck you Van Gundy. I liked you much better in Cukoo's Nest when you where eating the fish's eyes.

I will preface my statement by stating that I believe that Van Gundy and Jackson are the worst play by play tandem since ESPN had Theisman and McGuire and somebody else.I'll give them 60 wins easy. It all depends on how they play together as a team and their interior defense and the refs. Hyperbolic bullshit, no more no less.

Van Gundy doesn't do play-by-play. However, Van Gundy's color commentary is nicely off-the-wall and brutally honest.

AFAIK, Dwyane Wade has played for the Miami Heat for his entire NBA career.

I'll stand corrected on the play by play comment but the ABC's coverage on a whole during the Finals was brutal, IMO. FWIW, Van Gundy is better than Jackson.

I would be surprised if they were interested enough to win 70.

I don't think they do it

For one, they aren't an established team. They're going to need at least some time to get their chemistry together and gel. I think in November and December they'll probably have their worst months.

Second, EVERY TEAM in the league is going to be gunning for them...there aren't going to be any easy nights

I agree. If they do break it it will happen in year 2 or 3.

Depending on the new CBA, they might not even be together for a year two or three.

there is a pretty big difference between the 90's bulls and the 10's heat. jordan and his team mates were grown ass men. the three bitches arent. i bet they struggle a lot more then everyone thinks.

Yeah the big difference is the league is a hell of a lot more talented than it was in the mid 90's. The worst team in the league last year had a top 10 point guard and a top 5 center. The depth of the league could be the downfall in Van Gundy's prediction. That and South Beach could be a big distraction, not for the three stars on the team, but more for every one around them.

I'm not much for blanket statements, but I do think the Heat have a better chance than any team since MJ retired the second time to eclipse 72 wins. Hova saying in year two or three is a great point. Most NBA people will tell you it takes 40-50 games for a team to gel. I think there will be bumps in the road this season, but if they can keep the core solidified and the role players accept their roles, the Heat could be scary good.

The League does have to figure out the next CBA though. Anyone who thinks the owners need more power in these situations is not my friend. For example, meatballs calling into Grobstein's show are not my friends.

Looks like the Van Gundy brothers might've been trying to mess with their (the Heat) heads a bit, as both Van Gundy's said almost identical things back then, raising expectations for the Heat's first season together through the rafters:

Stan Van Gundy wrote:
“If I look at what the Bulls did winning 72 games and I look at the Heat roster, I am going to tell you that the Heat roster is better than any roster that Michael Jordan played with the Bulls. I don’t think that people predicting them breaking the win total and being in the 70s and the whole thing, I don’t think those are expectations that are out of line based on their roster… Dwyane Wade is certainly, in my opinion anyway, as good as he was, is better than Scottie Pippen. Chris Bosh is better than Toni Kukoc. Mike Miller is every bit as good a shooter as (John) Paxson or (Steve) Kerr or anybody they put there. Plus, he’s 6′8″. If you start going down the list, I don’t think there is any question that the roster the Heat have is as talented a roster if not more so as any roster there has ever been in the NBA.”

I've heard if the Heat players have tuned out Erik Spoelstra, they're going to like Pat Riley even less if he comes down from the President's office...

The players? No -- they're lobbying for Ed Badger.

Mike Brown still available?

I don't know what more Riley could do other than flash his rings in the huddle. Riley's already at the Heat's practices and around the team all the time. I doubt he puts his reputation as a coach on the line this season for this team, especially if Haslem's injury is season-ending.

Udonis Haslem underwent foot surgery yesterday, and likely won't play again this regular season, says the AP. Haslem ruptured the Lisfranc ligament in his left foot that could keep him out possibly more than 4 months. The Heat did sign journeyman center Erick Dampier yesterday.
