really. I haven't heard anything about this at all.

Total surprise!

If not for Isiah, no way this gets done and thats because he signed Curry to dead big money.

There are reports that say Dolan and D'Antoni call Isiah this summer so the Knicks wouldn't strikeout. His relationships reportedly helped. That's why Dolan tried to give him another job twice during the summer but King David Stern killed it.

He did sign all the guys he wanted. Just so happened it was a group of guys that didn't really care about basketball that much.

Looks like the Knicks got Billups as well, which guarantees they'll make the Conference finals but no further.

No it doesn't. Can Melo and Amare even play together? What happens when Billups leaves? Felton was perfecct for that offense.

It's good for NY though.

and who plays defense when it really matters?

A D'Antoni team never plays defense. Billups will be huge in the playoffs. The balance of power has changed to the East now. Paxson needs to be bold.

Knicks probably look to get D. Williams or Paul in the offseason.

How? Neither are free agents and they won't have cap room.

I know, but at some point and time to win it all they will have to please defense and I am not sure even with the addtion of Paul or Williams they will be able to do it. Now, they could totally outscore somebody and get the job done, but I would have to see it.

I keed, I keed.
Mocking Billups for something like 4 or 5 seasons of taking the Pistons to the brink and then never winning it all again after 2004.

This assures nothing for the Knicks. In fact, it will only open more questions on if Melo and A'mare can even hope to coexist. Miami figured it out, but Melo ain't no LBJ.

I think having Billups will help with that transition. Dude has played with and for everyone.

Who knows. Just heard on SC that in 2012 they will look to get either Williams, Paul, or Howard. I don't see Howard as a need.

Actually I think they may be a little closer to Boston. James and Wade still can't play together. They both need the ball. Melo doesn't dominate the ball. I think they will be fine but I don't think they depth to win this year.

I dunno if I agree with that. Melo is one of the biggest "ball stoppers" in the NBA; he gets the ball, he fires it up. A'mare is at least more likely to pass the ball out from the post if needed.

The Knicks are definiitely going to miss Felton in this deal. Amare has been scoring a shitload this year for New York, but I think Felton was a huge reason why this team has been somewhat competitive this season.

Denver will be an interesting team to watch for the rest of this season. They did lose their two leaders, but they picked up alot of nice pieces in return.

Knicks gave up more than they had to. He was coming to them regardless.

Probably had to overpay to outbid the Nets and who knows what other teams.

Post subject:  Re: Melo to the Knicks

I give the Nets' owner Prokorov(?) credit for doing his part to run up the price to near-astronomical proportions. The only thing that didn't get blown out of proportion was the draft picks, as it's only a 2014 first round and two second rounders.

Still, it amazes me that Carmelo went for this much. Everyone knew that he was not only done with the Nuggets, but that he also wanted to sign with the Knicks. This whole situation was a bigtime game of chicken: would the Knicks come up with enough to trade, versus would Carmelo risk going to the poor-house if he wasn't able to sign his vaunted extension.

Carmelo better not come up with some "I have a burning desire to win" crap in the wake of this. If he truly wanted to do that, he would have simply played out the year and signed with the Knicks and attempted to put them over the top. Instead, he was so worried about losing the 3yr/65mil extension versus whatever he could get under the new CBA that he pulled this crap, and the Knicks had to bitch out and give up ~60% of their team so they could kiss their new star's ass and get him his paper.

Oh and don't forget about Corey Brewer! The Coach of the Year award is going to be renamed "The Michael D'Antoni Award for Coaching Excellence... In 12 Seconds Or Less!" when he turns around this kid's future!

For once I agree with our long-winded friend, Sini.

Melo has always appeared to me to be in it for the money; nothing more, nothing less. He doesn't have the "desire to win" like other superstars in this league... at least as far as he puts on. Of course I have no idea what he is thinking at every moment of every day, but I just calls 'em like I sees 'em.

Also, I cannot understand why the Knicks would make this move right now and give up as much as they did when they "potentially" could get Melo for free next season as an FA.

The potential first round playoff matchup of the Bulls and NY just got a lot more interesting.

Yes. The Knicks are now the better team.
