If we got used to the Utah Jazz, I can get used to this name I suppose. At last we dont have to see the Oklahoma City Sonics.

Why would they change the name? It was named the Nets because of the Jets and Mets who were from the same area.

It would be like the Lakers going back to Minneapolis and then changing the name.

I could imagine Donald Sterling saying this. If he knew how to rap.

It isn't the "Nets" I take issue with..."Brooklyn Nets" just don't go too well together, in my opinion.
Ok. That's fair. I think they just wanted to make it clear that they aren't associated with Queens.

You could call that team the Brooklyn Deckers after the supermodel turned actress...OR NOT! Then again, there's nothing pretty about the Nets' franchise on the whole, whether they were known as the New York Nets in the old ABA, the New Jersey Nets or where they called home for the longest time in the Meadowlands.

Actually, RP, I saw that story last year on CBS News' "60 Minutes" and I wouldn't mind partying with that dude who owns the Nets...

Is he still a free agent? And if so, why? I thought he put together a nice little season for himself last year.

Collusion.

Teams know it'll be a distraction - he will have TMZ and the like wanting interviews and crap for at least a few more months I imagine. I mean, he has already made several talk show rounds...maybe he likes this stuff more than basketball.

It's not collusion when teams independently decide that a journeyman NBA player isnt worth the headache of tabloid headlines and Kardashians.

Correct, if they independently decided that. If David Stern decided it, it is different.

He had a very solid year, I find it hard to believe that at least one team didn't want to grab him...especially since so many teams are weak when it comes to big guys.

I love me a good NBA conspiracy theory but I don't know if this passes the smell test. Someone will probably give him a flyer. How come there's been no Sam Dalembert signing? I always thought he was at least a servicable big.

Sort of surprised nobody took a shot at Arenas yet.

NYK....or if you want a dark horse why don't the Lakers bring him back home to LA? They are one head case short since trading Lamar and they definately need scoring beyond Kobe

In another stealth Nets/Jazz trade, New Jersey announces it has just acquired Mehmet Okur for a 2015 second-round pick

Not as bad as when Camby was traded for a 2nd rounder. Looks like Utah is shifting into small market mode while they figure out what kind of team they have.
