Dumbasses. Report: Minnesota will offer Love four years, $60 million Kurt Helin Jan 18, 2012, 10:18 AM EST Minnesota may be about to screw up a good thing. They are an entertaining and up-and-coming team, one with a future behind Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, Derrick Williams and more. But that comes with a price. The first of those is Love, who is eligible for a contract extension between now and Jan. 25. He can get up to five years, about $80 million (which is the max for him, the exact numbers are not known yet and depend on league revenue) but there comes this report out of the Pioneer Press. Look for the Timberwolves to offer Kevin Love a $60 million, four-year contract extension within the next eight days. In money per year, this offer is pretty close to the max. However, it is one year less, $20 million guaranteed less than the max offer and it likely will not be well received in the Love camp. This is about what other teams could offer Love as a free agent, minus the bonus the Wolves can throw on top as the team with his rights. If Love doesn’t take the offer he becomes a restricted free agent next summer, which means other teams can make an offer but the Timberwolves have the right to match it. And they would, something that likely limits the offers Love would get. But here’s the risk: Love could just accept the one year qualifying offer the Wolves have to put on the table — $6.1 million for next season — then after that he could leave as an unrestricted free agent. Nobody is talking. Not the Timberwolves, not Love who brushed this off as something his agent is dealing with in a recent radio interview. So far, the only guy out of the 2008 draft to get an extension was Derrick Rose, who got a $94 million, four year offer under the new “Derrick Rose rule” (he won the MVP so he qualifies to make more than Love). While Love fell to pick No. 5 he has proven to be the second best player out of this class. And he is the anchor of a revival we are starting to see in Minnesota. One way to screw that up is to go cheap and drive players away. Love deserves a max or near max offer — he is a double-double machine, a big who can rebound and shoot from the outside, a good fit and the face of the team’s marketing efforts. He’s the one guy worth the money you pay him in terms of production and putting butts in the seats. Pay the man, or you risk ruining what has finally been built there. |

You really think Donald Sterling is gonna pay all these guys that kinda money? My bet is he still finds a way to fuck up his teams run of good fortune. There is no indication that this fucking bafoon can even keep this train on the tracks. Keep in mind this guy is still employing Vinny DelBado. |

You have a very valid point that Vinny Del Negro is still "head coaching" the Clippers. While many NBA "experts" are a lot higher on the Clippers, I'm not sold one bit on VDN as an NBA head coach. They may have Chris Paul and are now said to be on Dwight Howard's wish list of now 4 teams which he'd like the Magic to be traded, the Clippers always tend to screw up, regardless if it's Del Negro "coaching" or Don Sterling behind the scenes as this team's owner. |

Quote: Source: Wolves To Offer Love Max Deal
Jan 19, 2012 10:19 AM EST The Timberwolves are prepared to pay Kevin Love a maximum-salary contract, a league source said Wednesday. Unresolved is whether it will be a four-year contract approaching $61 million or a maximum five-year "designated player" deal surpassing $78 million. The NBA's new labor agreement allows every team one designated player -- a player ending his rookie contract who receives a five-year maximum-salary contract extension -- on their roster. it would be somewhat of a shame to see him leave there. they finally seem to be assembling a team that, if they add a few more pieces, can compete in the next few years. i'm not saying i think they will, but it's possible they could get into the playoffs as 7/8 seed. I could see Memphis or Denver fading, and I think they can pass up Houston. Regardless, i've watched several games and the crowd there is genuinely into the team, Rubio has really energized them....their problem now is that they have no one who can shoot. Rubio and Love are drawing all the attention and between Ellington, Tolliver, etc. none of them can hit the side of a barn. Ridnour has been OK at times and perhaps once Barea plays more he'll help. |

HOVA wrote: Bagels wrote: well, apparently now there are conflicting reports He wouldn't agree only if he was going to leave. No other reason. well right I had the Heat-Cavs game on NBA TV and at halftime last night they reported it was done...then this morning (or late last night) saying it wasn't....possibility could be that while the money is a max deal, its only 4 years vs. 5, which could be the holdup. i don't know the Wolves are doing, offer him every last dollar you have. Assuming Williams develops at least somewhat , I think they can win with a core of Love, Rubio and him...just need to add some shooters |

The Timberwolves are not going to pay him big money. It's not as if he was worth Kevin Garnett money. |

Quote: MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has been suspended two games for stomping on Rockets forward Luis Scola's face in their game on Saturday. The NBA announced the suspension on Monday. The incident occurred when Scola fell to the court during the third quarter. As Love headed back to the other end, he stepped on Scola's face and upper body. Love said after the game that the stomp was not intentional and he went to the Rockets' locker room to apologize to Scola. The NBA also upgraded it to a Flagrant-Two foul on Love. The suspension means the Timberwolves will be without their leading scorer and rebounder for a home game against Sacramento on Tuesday night and a game at Memphis on Wednesday night. fully expected to see this coming |

Pick your stat. well let's see....his assist numbers will probably go down because their leading scorer will be on the bench his scoring may go up slightly only because he'll probably be taking more shots...but he's not a good shooter...i doubt his FG% will be going up. he'll probably back into a few more rebounds |
