The New York Knicks have basically said that anyone is available in a potential trade for Dwight Howard... other than Jeremy Lin.

I feel this pays further testament to the opinion that the Knicks may have the dumbest front office in the NBA.

Jeremy Lin's trade value is through the damn roof right now, so if you can turn him into Dwight Howard then you have to take that opportunity. You also probably have a magical laser or potion that changes people into other people.

Melo for Dwight Howard straight up.

Making that move also allows them to move Chandler and acquire a decent replacement at SF.

I would certainly hope that's not the case, although one Eastern Conference GM reportedly thinks otherwise.

Quote:
"I'm positive the Knicks have called just in case Dwight changes up," an Eastern Conference GM said. "I'm sure they've offered a combination of everybody, excluding Jeremy Lin, of course."

The only reason they wouldn't trade Lin is because they aren't going to get anything of value back. He's still unproven.

If Orlando wans Lin in a package deal to give up Howard, then I would say that's pretty high value. Stating that he isn't even available is throwing that possibility out the window (assuming that is actually true).

The Knicks are another team not on Dwight Howard's wish list...at least as far as I know. Right now, the Magic want an arm & a leg for Howard and they're not satisfied with what's been offered. I think if Dwight goes anywhere, it's to the West. The one catch...Can the team that trades for Dwight sign him? If not, forget it.

Lin will be a cash cow for New York. Think of all the merchandise & apparel that will be moved all around the world because of him. That will also be a big factor on whether or not New York decides to move him.

I think Howard for Will Perdue straight up sounds fair.

yeah but on the other hand they could package him with a large unwanted contract to get value back that way

I dont think they would trade Melo and probably not Amare.

I dont think that's what the reporter meant. I think he meant every combination of players except the obviously untouchable ones.

And yes, I think they'd trade Lin. Why the hell not?

I think the Knicks would jump at the chance to move Amare and that contract, although I don't know why Orlando would want to take it back. He's lost a lot of explosiveness since the microfracture knee surgery.

What else do they have to offer that's of value?

A package of Chandler & a Knick Poo-Poo platter of scrubs is not going to get any deal done for Melo.

Right now, the Knicks are definitely regretting the Carmelo Anthony trade, and not just because of Jeremy Lin's emergence. Privately, the Knicks would love to trade him, let alone his wife, ex-MTV/VH1 VJ LaLa Vasquez. Too bad they can't use the amnesty clause...

They already have Melo

Giving up Melo for Howard? Isnt that a lateral move?

Arent you trying to add a third star?

I thought Carmelo's old team the Nuggets had a better record than not only the Knicks, but had the 3rd best record in the NBA behind the Bulls & Thunder since the deal was made around a year ago at this time.

I wouldn't consider it a lateral move. I think Melon for Dwight would be a clear upgrade.

Sorry, typo. Corrected above in the quote.

It isn't exactly a lateral move.

They move Howard for Melo. And then they can move Chandler (who becomes useless since the Knicks would then have Howard), and they can pick up a solid contributor at Small Forward)

A Lineup of the following is pretty damn scary:
C - Howard
PF - Amare
SF - Guy acquired by trading Chandler
PG - Lin
SG - J.R. Smith or whoever

They could get a guy like Monta Ellis for Chandler probably.

I didnt realize you guys valued Howard that much over Melo.

How much better is Howard than Chandler?

Is it a smaller difference than Melo to Monta?

Post subject:  Re: Dwight Howard to Knicks?

I've heard Dwight Howard and game changer in the same breath, especially if he gets dealt to a team out West. Even though the soon to be Brooklyn Nets are atop Howard's wish list, imagine for a moment if he ends up with the Mavericks, Lakers or Clippers...

It's a pretty big gap. I'd say Howard is about equal to Chandler and Melo.

From ESPN today...

John Hollinger wrote:
there is no trade market at all for Amare -- his contact is uninsurable, which immediately eliminates most of the league from even considering it, plus he's rapidy declining and has three years left after this one at nearly $20 mil a pop. So they would have to deal Melo, which would be quite the irony. But if I'm New York I don't do anything rash just yet -- let this play out and see what you have with Lin and Smith playing, and then make decisions this summer.

You're not really quoting John Hollinger, are you? Is that the same John Hollinger whose proprietary player ratings list the great Dennis Rodman as the seventh best player on the '95-'96 Bulls behind such stalwarts as Jud Buechler?

His stats are sometimes off(they say Lin is a better player than Kobe right now), but he knows about the league and besides, what I just quoted is common sense stuff. Not exactly breaking news.
