Right now, Kevin Durant of the Thunder has overtaken the Heat's LeBron James for NBA MVP. If he had not missed as many games this season with back, toe & groin issues, a certain Bull named Derrick Martell Rose would also be in the MVP discussion. As it is, here's my Top 5:

1. OKC's Kevin Durant
2. MIA's LeBron James
3. LAL's Kobe Bryant
4. SA's Tony Parker
5. ORL's Dwight Howard

Remember SHARK, there's still room on the csfmb spurs bandwagon. I'll even let you ride shotgun.

I have family down in San Antonio. Wouldn't be shocked if the Spurs end up being in the NBA Finals instead of the Thunder. Unfortunately, that's also when viewership for the NBA Finals goes down.

Nailed.

I don't get any love for D. Howard on a serious MVP ballot.

He's the most irreplaceable player in the league.

I'd hazard a guess that no player on any team that has taken as many nights off as his Magic have has ever won MVP. That team reflects his (& Stan Van's) leadership.

There's some truth to that for sure, which is one reason why he's not in the top two. But if you replaced him with a league average center the Magic would be one of the 5 or 6 worst teams in the league. If you replaced Kobe with a league average shooting guard the Lakers are probably fighting for an 8th seed since they still have the 2nd best C and PF in the league. He's definitely one of the five most valuable guys to his team in the league IMO.

Gonna be a lonely ride.

Actually, I think Pops should be the Spurs MVP candidate this year. Probably the 4th greatest of all time behind Auerbach, Jackson, and Riley.

I disagree. He could've taken his and beat Riley's, or taken Riley's and beaten his. He's solidly in the 3rd spot all time. I agree that he's had an outstanding season, but Parker has taken his game to another level. He's consistently bringing it every night with Manu missing half the season and Duncan being 67 years old. What Parker has done this season is probably the biggest surprise of the year IMO.

As for the bandwagon, it's an extremely lonely ride. That's why the shotgun seat is available still. It's not too late to hop on Kid.

All joking aside, Parker has really surprised me this year. I didn't think he had it in him at this stage in his career with all the minutes logged - especially doing it without Manu. That's impressive.

To me, Red is like the Babe Ruth of basketball coaching. I don't care how many of his records get broken, I can't put anybody ahead of him.
