The Magic are a screw. With 7 games in the regular season (5 on the road), Dwight is out with a herniated disc. 5 of these games are against teams with something to play for. There is a good chance the Magic slide to #8 in the standings as they only lead NYK and PHI by 3 games. A Howardless Magic team in the first round sounds good to me. Isn't that an injury that will be around for a while or require surgery? |

It can be. Depends on the severity, and several other factors Bernstein can fill us in on come Monday. The interesting thing according to the article I read was that he injured it on 3/30/2012. The Magic docs told him "no structural problems, no disc problems". He went and found a doctor in California that found the herniated disc. A couple of scenarios: - The Magic wanted him to keep playing with a bad back, and didn't tell Dwight the severity. They lied to their star player - Magic have crappy doctors and didn't know - Doc in LA found a small bulging disc that can be treated with meds and rest. He may be available in 2 - 3 weeks. - Doc in LA found a serious issue with Dwight's back and he is gonna be out for a while and have to go under the knife. - Doc in LA didn't find anything significant, but Howard is tired and didn't want to jeopardize a big payday by getting seriously injured in what has become an embarrassing year in Orlando. |

I believe in Howard's case, he'll be out until Ron Jeremy Van Gundy is fired. |

Here's my theory: Howard is pouting right now because of the whole him wanting Van Gundy fired story. He found a doctor that would write him a note, and he can now sit the rest of the season and tank any chances his team has of advancing, and possibly missing the playoffs. The blame will now shift to Van Gundy which will get him canned. I think Howard is shallow enough for this to be true. |

I do too. My guess is the Orlando doctors probably feel the same way. |

Jerry: He feels funny. You don't have to do this. George: He knows that! Jerry: Roy, should we go? Is this a breach of our friendship? George: Oh, can you be any more dramatic? |

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/report-howard-doing-well-back-022605971--nba.html Something about this story doesn't make sense. Granted, I've only had 7 back surgeries to repair herniated discs (including one 4 weeks ago) so what do I know, but as far as I know there's no such thing as arthroscopic surgery to repair a herniated disc. Sounds to me like they are trying to spin the story and make the surgery sound less severe than it really was. Not sure how many of his free agent suiters are going to fall for that bs. Surgery to repair a hern disc is a microdiscetomy and its defintely invaseive and not arthroscopic. Also, the 4 month recovery timetable they are giving him sounds fishy as well. First time surgery is at most an 8 week timetable until you are back to full activity. After my first surgery I was back on the basketball court in 8 weeks, migth have even been 6. They also mention how he won't be able to play in the Olympics...my guess is they are using the made up timetable of 4 months as an excuse to avoid going to the olympics without getting any backlash from pissed off USA fans who want him there. Lots of fishy stuff in this story.... |
