That's the most overused phrase in the NBA now. Everybody has a big 3. It's just your 3 best guys. I actually heard someone refer to Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson, and Dion Waiters as a big 3. Nevermind that two of the three might not be able to play and sound like swimsuit models. Quite the annoying trend. I guess it's too hard to say "The Nash/Kobe/Pau/Bynum core could be a title contender with the right role players."

That's disingenuous of KC. You can say that about a 28 year old athlete. It doesn't apply as much to a ringless 38 year old athlete. I believe Karl Malone turned down more money from Boston or someone to chase a ring with the Lakers. Would KC like to extol the virtues of Karl Malone?

It's not disingenuous at all. It's clearly not about the money for Nash. If it was, he'd go to the highest bidder, even if it was Toronto, Sacramento, whatever....age doesn't matter. These guys are all young in the course of their lives. They've got decades left to spend their millions either way.

Age matters a great deal. That's silly to say. What else can Nash do in his future to earn $25-36M over three years? He'll have a comfortable living, but this was his last big payday. That's why it's ok to say its not about money with him. It's just inaccurate to suggest that's a rare trait in 35+ old, ringless athletes.

Ah, I misunderstood. I didn't realize you were focusing on the word "rare". I agree then. There are many guys who go to league-minimum places for a chance at a ring. But usually those are 1-year deals. Nash is a little different in that regard.


BTW, even though he's as old as Canadian dirt, the Lakers area better team with Nash than they would have been with Lamar Kardashian. No question about that, right?

No question. The Lakers are dangerous now. Nash will have a greater impact on them than any other team. It'd be like KG going to Miami. Because of the huge weakness of that position on the team, an upgrade to above average looks like an upgrade to superstar.

By signing Steve Nash, LA is not only acquiing a PG, but they're also getting a head coach. Now the Lakers can finally run offensive plays!

Those 4 draft picks seem like an awful high price to pay. I guess there is no chance of Howard coming there now.

What picks are they? If they all end up being 20+ then I disagree. That's a bargain to give Kobe one or maybe two more realistic shots at a ring.

I don't think they are mortgaging the future at all. When's the last late pick the Lakers used on a starter? Giving up on the Javaris Crittenton, Luke Walton, and Brian Cook's of the world is easily worth getting Nash and giving Kobe a chance for a ring down the stretch.

Now if Kobe wants to take his ball and go home, it's on him. Nash is perfect for this team. Russell Westbrook is the most athletic guy in the league according to some and he can't play D to save his life but the Thunder can hide him. The Lakers can too with Pau and Bynum.

They're too polite to do that. This isn't Vancouver you're talking aboot.

The Lakers need Nash to learn how to play defense and for him and Kobe to find the fountain of youth. They'll beat OKC if they can do that. Now they definitely need shooters.

The good part (for them) is that these are usually some of the easiest/cheapest players to find.

I think thats a yes and no. They are the easiest to find, but usually they are bargain basement guys that work out. Bagels pointed out Korver, but in general paying a shooter who cant do anything else is usually a bad idea. From what Ive seen, shooters are similar to relief pitchers in baseball. They can be found anywhere, but once they are found they are often overpaid, and its just as easy to strike out on a prospective one as it is to hit on one.
