Five years too late. He just wanted to beat Tagliabue's record. |

Stern hasn't always done everything right but for as long as his tenure was he really grew the league and the game worldwide. That being said, I think I'd like to see some new leadership and see what they can do with the NBA. |

I vote for making Doc Rivers retire and take the Commish job. |

Da Cube sure didn't mind Stern when he was locking out the players to drive down their wages. Stern has lost some of his infallibility in recent years, which is a shame. It used to be that Stern exuded a sort of wisdom and vision that really made you believe that he, as just as big a basketball fan as the rest of us, honestly did have the good of the game at heart. Letting the Sonics move to Oklahoma City to chase the goodwill of staying in New Orleans and presiding over an ugly lockout did a lot to remind us that maybe he is just a lawyer for a bunch of disgustingly rich old guys and giant corporations. |

Best commissioner in sports, which isn't saying much, but Stern did a good enough job IMO. Of course he could've been better, but there is still plenty of room for the league to grow its fan base. I wonder what Silver's stance on contraction is. The league desperately needs to get down to 24-26 teams, which will make a MUCH better league from a fan's point of view. Do it. |

The real question is how much more credit MJ deserves than he does. I can't argue that he came into the job during what many consider the golden age of the game. However he mortgaged the popularity of the game to add 6 new franchises, marketed the game to Europe and especially the last 10 years to China. |

Until a couple years ago, the Memphis Grizzlies weren't exactly a box office draw since relocating from Vancouver, B.C. The Toronto Raptors haven't been relevant for quite sometime either. Ditto for the Charlotte Bobcats, Sacramento Kings & New Orleans Hornets. I also can't remember the last time the Milwaukee Bucks did squat either. I could think of maybe 6 teams the NBA could do without. |

Can't figure out how the union is going to be cool with eliminating 20% of their jobs. That proposal would go over like the ol' fart in church. |

They had some good squads with Ray Allen, Big Dog Robinson, Sam Cassell and for a few years Michael Redd. Would hate to see the Bucks leave, but I agree they have been grasping at straws for a while now. |

The real question is how much more credit MJ deserves than he does. There wouldn't have been much of a league to grow if it wasn't for Bird and Magic. Still, Stern did do a good job his first 15 years on the job. CH is right about the wheels coming off a bit in the past 5-10 years. The Seattle thing is indefensible really. The Donaghy thing is a big black eye. Trying to get the players to talk and dress like Mitt Romney is/was a bad idea. He couldn't have handled the lockout worse. The Chris Paul/Lakere trade veto doesn't get the criticism it still warrants. His legacy has definitely taken a deserved hit. |

CH, if new NBA Commissioner Adam Silver considers contraction when he succeeds David Stern come February 2014, that'll be interesting to say the least among the rank & file in the NBA Players Association. I think the MLB Players Association had a real problem with a similar proposal a few years ago. MLB Commissioner Allan H. "Bud" Selig also mentioned the "c" word, but that never came to fruition either. |

Sure, you're both right, but you can't deny the league would be better off with less teams, and the competition level would obviously increase. I do remember hearing whispers that Stern was in favor of contraction a year or two ago, but that obviously never went anywhere. I would think that revenue's would go up, even with less teams, because fans will be more willing to spend the money if they know they aren't going to see a 15 win team night in, night out. Would YOU be willing to go to more games if you weren't seeing crap teams 2-3 times a week? I do think it would be fun to do a mock dispersal draft though. Maybe I'll put something together this weekend for the fun of it. |

But he knew a lockout was inevitable, and most likely was trying to pre-emptively gain leverage for that. |

Maybe instead of less teams, they can make two leagues: A & B. Put the crap teams in the B league, like they do in european soccer. At the end of the year, the leagues play their top 4 teams against each other in the playoffs. |

Yea, that could be it, but I'd like to think Stern realizes that he would have a far better league with contraction. jimmypasta wrote: Maybe instead of less teams, they can make two leagues: A & B.
