Can't say I'm surprised. The Nets were supposed to be much better in their new home and their brand new arena, the Barclays Center. I wonder if the novelty has already worn off in Brooklyn...

The Nets are expected to make assistant P.J. Carlesimo the interim head coach, league source tells Y! Sports.

He'll choke.

The NBA loves firing coaches around the holidays.

Guys, P.J. Carlesimo has indeed been named Brooklyn's interim head coach, starting with tomorrow night's home game vs. bumbling, stumbling Charlotte, owners of a 16-game losing streak.

I see what you did there with the "choke" reference. Not sure if Deron Williams will do his Latrell Sprewell imitation like what Latrell did when P.J. coached in Golden State many years ago.

If I'm the Nets, I would seriously consider hiring Jerry Sloan. Just to stick it to Deron Williams.

If you were the Nets, why would you "stick it" to your star player after giving him a max extension?

Because he's not very good.

Will Nets ownership make a run at Phil Jackson? Something to remember: Management's never believed the triangle offense fit this personnel.

This is not a title ready team. Can't see Phil being interested.

That trade for Joe Johnson was the dumbest move made this offseason. For that money, they could have signed 2-3 other quality guys to fill out the roster. Now they're stuck with that albatross of a contract, and they can't amnesty it either. Dumb, dumb, dumb....

I don't know if Jerry Sloan wants to coach ever again, DB. His name was mentioned, albeit briefly, for the Lakers' job that went to Mike D'Antoni a while back. I don't even know if Sloan wants to join ESPNEWS as an analyst like Avery Johnson was before landing the Nets' job.

I wonder if Avery heads back to Bristol, CT now that he's been whacked...

Rude awakening coming for Deron Williams. Always played in tiny markets, now he's an overpaid, underachieving coach-killer in NYC? Yikes.

Danny Ferry should be GM of the year for getting rid of that and Marvin Williams contract in like a week

You can forget about Ron Jeremy, I mean Stan Van Gundy. Now with NBC Sports Network as a college basketball analyst, the Orlando Sentinel's Brian K. Schmitz has tweeted the former Heat & Magic head coach is NOT interested in the Nets' job.

Van Gundy should go for the Nets job. It will make the Dwight Howard to the Nets rumors this off-season even more interesting.

P.J. Carlesimo might be the Brooklyn head coach for the rest of this season at least. Sports Illustrated NBA scribe Chris Mannix has just Tweeted that former Sonics & Blazers' head coach Nate McMillan isn't on the Nets' radar either. Mannix feels Brooklyn might have a tough time landing a big name this late in the season.

I disagree. I dont think Avery is a good coach, but Im not sure he was a problem with NJ. They just dont have a lot of talent.

Phil Jackson's name has been mentioned as a potential replacement for the fired Avery Johnson. TNT's David Aldridge said via Phil's agent that Jackson isn't interested right now, but ESPNLosAngeles.com claims that Jackson would be willing to listen. Hmmm...

You don't think Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace & Brook Lopez are a lot of talent ? I'm not saying I think Avery is the problem either, but clearly it's a pretty solid roster and should be better than .500 especially in the East

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski has Tweeted via his Yahoo! sources that Rockets' assistant and onetime Indiana University HC Kelvin Sampson has emerged as a 'significant' candidate for the Nets' job. Hmmm...

No, I don't really think that is a lot of talent. I've never been a fan of Brook Lopez and have constantly criticized him on here. I don't think he's a valuable guy to have. He's so bad defensively and on the boards that it invalidates any good offensive play he contributes. Gerald Wallace is a shell of what he was with the Bobcats. He can still guard bigger guys, but he has lost quite a bit of his athleticism, which means he has lost quite a bit of what made him really good. Deron is pretty good but he's playing terribly this season and I don't blame Avery for that. Atlanta is better without Joe Johnson, I think that says it all.

I think every guy you listed is overrated. Brook Lopez is highly overrated. JJ and Brook Lopez are horrendous defensive players, and it's not like Humphries, Deron, or Wallace are good enough to compensate for them.

I just don't think they are a very good team. I think they are a little better than .500, but their team has a lot of new parts still meshing. I'm not surprised at their record, I think it'll slightly improve, but they aren't a contender any more than a team like Indiana with Granger back or Philly is.

I do like him. I hope he gets traded to a team without a bunch of unlikable pussies so it's easier to root for him.

That's ridiculous, they're far better than Indiana w/ Granger or Philly. Both of those teams are grind it out, underdog, scrappy type teams who will give better teams a fight to the end but ultimately will come up short.

They have some decent bench/role players- Reggie Evans is a solid rebounder off the bench, as Kid pointed out Brooks is good, Blatche is not bad

They're just underperforming...plus I think you have to give some credence to the fact that they need to find chemistry as you alluded to...it's basically a brand new team that hasn't played together before, i think they need a bit of time to gel. so hell, maybe it is Johnson's fault
