Raptors and Grizzlies are discussing framework of trade with respective ownership groups now, sources tell Y! Deal could be done tonight.

That might mean the Grizzlies are no longer contenders in the top heavy West if the Rudy Gay deal becomes a reality.

Rudy Gay being traded doesn't necessarily take Memphis out of the conversation.

SI's Chris Mannix is a little surprised via Twitter. He thinks the Grizzlies might be on the verge of breaking up what I think is a good enough team to do some damage out West.

Solid trade for Memphis and Detroit. I don't know what the hell Toronto is thinking.

Memphis has proved in the past that they don't really suffer with Gay out of the lineup. That's a terrible truth for someone who's gonna make $37 million over the next two years. Prince is a versatile defender that shouldn't bitch about a reduced role and should fit in nicely with that team and is probably thrilled to be back on a winning team after 4-5 years. Ed Davis is a solid big who gives them a safety cushion for Arthur's inevitable next injury.

Toronto is now going to pay Rudy Gay, DeRozan, and Landry Fields about 65% of it's salary cap. Unless they are trying to go exactly 30-52 over the next three seasons, it's hard to understand their plan going forward. This looks like one of those incredibly stupid Isiah trades where he's getting the best player and doesn't think any other factors are pertinent.

And they still have bad money tied up in Barganani too.

Forgot about that.

My (Beardownish) theory: Isiah Thomas has actually harnessed the power of mind control, and Bryan Colangelo is his first victim.

If I'm not mistaken, the whole Landry Fields thing is hilarious and very Isiahish in the first place.

The Raptors wanted Nash but thought he was going to the Knicks. So the Raptors offered the poison pill contract to Fields in an attempt to price the Knicks out of the market for Nash.

I don't think they really even wanted Fields.

I thought they deliberately overpaid for Fields under the mistaken assumption that it would impress Nash and help them get him. Either way it's funny. The Raptors are a mess now, and unlike the past few years, they are just as fucked by their lack of cap flexibility as they are on the court. But they'll never be quite bad enough to get a #1 pick without significant help in the lottery.

Grizzlies deal Gay to Raptors in three-team trade

(AP) -- Rudy Gay is on his way to Toronto in the latest and most dramatic move in the Memphis Grizzlies' money-motivated makeover.

The Grizzlies agreed to trade their star swingman to the Raptors on Wednesday, parting with the leading scorer on a team that has aspirations of making a run in the powerful Western Conference.
The Raptors gave up point guard Jose Calderon and forward Ed Davis in the deal that also included Grizzlies backup center Hamed Haddadi, and Memphis then shipped Calderon to Detroit for Austin Daye and Tayshaun Prince.

This isn't exactly breaking news.

I'm hoping the Bulls will keep Jimmy Butler because unless they trade him for LeBron James or someone similar I am not at all willing to see him go.

I don't think you have to worry about it...for now anyway.

When you know who returns, I've gotta think the Bulls have to make a corresponding move, especially considering what Executive VP John Paxson told ESPN 1000 AM's Marc Silverman & Tom Waddle about a week to 10 days ago about the Bulls right up against the luxury tax themselves.

Maybe just leave Artest home from now on when you go to the Palace.

I've read the the Bucks are shopping Samuel Dalembert. Is there any chance the Bulls can make a run at him to fill the end of the bench. The corpse of Nazr Mohammed is just completely useless, and I think Vlad-Rad might have killed Thibs' mom. Da Bulls need a big man.

How about Rip for Sam?

Do the Bucks need any help in the backcourt?

Didn't Sam just throw up a 35/12 against Denver? I dont see why the Bucks would want Rip for him.

They're both expiring deals.

The Bucks are pretty SOLID up front, so I think they are looking for some help in the backcourt. It's basically a wash for both teams since neither guy will be brought back.

In fact the more I think about it, Utah would be a seemingly willing trade partner for the Bulls.

Al Jefferson and Paul Milsap are both unrestricted free agents at seasons end. Presently, they are court blocking the younger tandem of Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter.

Utah could use some help at the two guard.

They are also in NBA hell. Would you give up Rip and the Charlotte pick for any one of those 4? Or Jimmy Butler perhaps?

I'd have no problem giving up the pick and Rip for Millsap or Jefferson.

Yeah, but that aint going to happen.

They would have a better chance of sending Boozer back to Utah for either of those guys.

 No chance they want Boozer back for anything, but I agree that isnt enough.

Really I dont expect the Bulls to do anything at the deadline and I'm fine with that.

I agree, but I think they have to try to do something to try and replace Nazr Mohammed. Even giving a look at some bum with a 10-day contract would be fine. Just do something. This recent string of injuries has really cast a light on the lack of inside depth on this team.

Yeah it'd be nice to replace Nazr with pretty much anyone. I wouldnt mind seeing a small deal involving Rip for someone else's backup big man. Beyond that, I really dont want to see them mess with the team unless Boozer can be moved.
