Since adding Rudy Gay they are 7-3 and have beat the Clippers, Pacers, Hornets, Nuggets, Washington and the Knicks twice. If they continue like this they could sneak in as an 8 seed.

They have 26 games to gain 5 games on the Bucks. I don't like their odds; the Bucks can't slump like this forever.

More of a Raptor rising (luls) but the thread title made me think of this:

8.5 back of the Bucks with 21 games to play. Womp womp.

He called their games for a decade in Toronto before he became the Bulls' radio voice. Needless to say, Chuck Swirsky, whom I follow @swirsk054 on Twitter, is awfully disappointed the Raptors aren't much better. Swirsky thought his former team was good enough for a playoff spot in the East. That appears very unlikely right now, even with the recent addition of Rudy Gay before the NBA Trade Deadline last month.

I am shocked Mini Ditka isn't boycotting Raptors games because they traded for a Gay.

I thought they had a chance, but they've gone in tank recently and really there's no chance they can catch any of the top 8 teams.

Raptors announce Andrea Bargnani out for rest of season w/elbow injury. Team says not related to previous elbow injury.

This may actually enhance their chances.

Him and Michael Olowokandi are 1 and 1a for the worst number 1 picks of my lifetime I think. Even Kwame Brown is still bouncing around the league at least.

Oh god, the 2006 draft. You had Bargnani, Adam Morrison, and Tyrus Thomas in the top five that year. Even if the Raptors didn't pick Bargnani, they still probably would have whiffed.

Oh, and did you forget Greg Oden? Obvious worst first.

Yeah I guess I blocked that out. Picking him over Durant was just atrocious.

hindsight is always 20/20...there was definitely a large contingent of people that felt Oden would be better, it wasn't like the Blazers picked him out of nowhere

Yeah I guess. But that doesn't mean it exactly worked out well for the Blazers. You can retroactively justify picking Bowie over Jordan, but that doesn't mean it was the right move.

More people were on Team Oden then Team Durant at the time.

Oden was coming off taking OSU to the National Championship game and like bagels said you can't teach size. Durant was definitely less well regarded coming into the pro's. Simmons and a few others were banging the Durant drum pretty hard leading up to the draft but the consensus was definitely that Oden was the "safer" pick. Which  . Anyways i am not surprised you can't remember any of this as it was way before your time.

Your memory is failing you.

Oden was a concensus first pick going into the season. Durant put up monster numbers so some said he might be the better pick, but most people went with Oden.

There were questions about Durant's body

And Oden only played ONE dominant game. The Natl Title game. But that was enough for most.

At best, this was considered a toss-up when the draft happened. But I can remember more people favoring Oden as well.

Also, Oden put up an unbelievably monster performance going up against Noah and Horford of Florida in the championship game. Even Simmons wrote afterwards that the game single handedly caused him to doubt his over the top Durant love. If Oden didn't have health issues(I know injuries were a concern even prior to the draft), I'm pretty confident he would never be mentioned with the likes of the Kandi Man, Kwame, Bargnani, Joe Smith, etc.

I remember the first time I saw Durant play at Texas and I was blown away. I tried to watch him play as much as possible, he was so smooth. Having said that if you had the first pick it was a pretty good consensus that you would have taken Oden.

I have no hope that anyone will rise up to catch the Bucks. If that were the case, Derrick could take the rest of the year off and the Bulls could have a solid chance at hitting the lottery. That would warm the cackles of my heart, therefore it has no chance of happening.

Also, jesus MD, do you look in the mirror at the end of the night and say "I started 5 threads today; the drink was stirred. I am the great CSFMB straw in that it is my one purpose in life to provide a medium to suck!" ???

Also, =D

There was questions about Oden's age and his ability to stay healthy from even before he was drafted.

I was a huge fan of Durant in college and going into the draft, and specifically remember having conversations about it with one of my buddies. I also do my best to remind him of this discussion constantly.

He was also a Thabeet fan.

Yeah, every night Durant was putting up lines like 35/15. Hard not to love.

i don't think anyone on planet earth is claiming Oden over Durant or Bowie over Jordan was the right move.....
i know it didn't work out for them
just saying at the time there was a debate, it wasn't a consensus #1 either way
