Gonzaga or Cal? I remember his tournament run was pretty incredible with a smaller unknown at the time team. |

Colonel Angus wrote: What was Jason Kidd anyway? Was black? Was he white? Was he whatever they call Ivan? From his Wikipedia page: "His father Steve was African-American, and his mother Anne is Irish-American." I would venture to say probably almost all of the mixed race NBA players have African-American fathers and Caucasian mothers. |

I thought he looked like an owl. A young good dolphin was at the Allstate Arena to watch a legendary NCAA tournament game between Kidd leading Cal and Hurley leading Duke. It was the game where Coach Ks favorite group of players ended their time with the team |

Is Kidd a Hall of Famer. The further you get away from his career and rely on statistics for evaluation, probably not. |

His APG isn't eye popping and he didn't really have a generation. 19 years in the NBA covers close to three generations. I agree that he was a top point guard but I'm not sure statistically that he was. |

I agree that he's a sure fire HOF'er, but I'd take GP over him, which I know is unpopular. KS is right to point out Kidd's troubles with shooting earlier in his career. People used to call him Ason Kidd. Payton was the more complete player, in my opinion. His post-Kemp years with Seattle were amazing. How can you rely on these guys and still average 23 and 8? 2 Rashard Lewis 3 Ruben Patterson 4 Vin Baker 5 Patrick Ewing 6 Brent Barry 7 Shammond Williams 8 David Wingate 9 Desmond Mason 10 Emanual Davis 11 Jelani McCoy 12 Ruben Wolkowyski 13 Olumide Oyedeji 14 Pervis Ellison Who is he passing to for those assists? He's the best offensive weapon on that team by far. |

He was a triple double waiting to happen. I believe he is 2nd to Magic and no active player has a chance to catch him. |

Keeping Score wrote: Just throwing this out there for no reason, but it always amazes me that the All-Time Leader in assists and steals - both by significant margins, never gets mentioned as the best point guard of all time. Not to mention he's 40th all time in scoring, was an incredibly pesky and tenacious defender, and shot over 51% for his career. Must've been the shorts. Magic had a shorter career and has 5 rings. He'll have to settle for #2. |

Jason Kidd is going to have his jersey retired by the Nets. I do think he is a first ballot HOFer, but a jersey retirement for the Nets is a little overboard IMO. He only played 6 seasons there, and never won a title. There needs to be some sort of standard set for jersey retirings, or statues being built, otherwise teams will eventually run out of numbers. I'd say at least 10 seasons with the team or 2+ titles with the team (if played less than 10 seasons). Then you can retire the jersey. Otherwise, fuck off and go beat up your wife. |

It is surely too soon to judge Kidd’s coaching acumen, but it is fair to wonder whether he was ready for this job, on this stage, with these weighty expectations. A veteran scout, interviewed earlier in the day and speaking on the condition of anonymity, called Kidd’s bench comportment “terrible,” observing that the play-calling has fallen mostly to his top assistants, Lawrence Frank and John Welch. “He doesn’t do anything,” said the scout, who has watched the Nets several times. “He doesn’t make calls. John Welch does all the offense. Lawrence does all the defense. … I don’t know what Kidd does. I don’t think you can grade him and say he’s bad. You can give him an incomplete.” The same scout said he had counted only 15 plays run by the Nets in the games he has watched. Multiple observers have noted that the Nets offense lacks any discernible flow, as if the stars are all simply taking turns with the ball. Last week, ESPN’s David Thorpe, who also works as a skills coach to a number of NBA players, called Kidd “the worst coach in the NBA.” |
