I have always loved the dunk contest but it is getting out of hand, when they decided to let the fans choose a winner I didn't think it could get any worse, but now it is a team thing?! Dunking has always been and will forever be an individual thing, you can't put a team on that. The point of the dunk contest was to perform your best dunk and hope it was better then anyone else's. Putting them on teams has got to be one of the worst decisions ever made, they have taken a contest everyone loves and ruined it

The whole weekend is terrible. The team skills challenge or whatever it's called is awful. WNBAers shooting half court shots... spare me.

Agreed. If LeBron did the dunk contest I'd be somewhat interested. But that's probably it. I'll still watch it because what the hell else is on tonight, but it has become an embarrassing night for the league.

It's sad because this used to be a weekend everyone would watch, now it is a laughing stock and they are just trying to find ways to make it better but it has just crashed and burned in the last 5 years

The highlight of the past 5 years was when Chuck raced Dick Bevetta. That was pretty entertaining.

The dunk contest jumped the shark years ago. Nate Robinson missing dunk after dunk one year during the same turn was the nail in the coffin. Blake Griffin jumping over the hood (?) of a Kia was so bad it was laughable. Should have just brought out a folding chair. The dunk contest died when Vince Carter lost his vertical. Same could perhaps be said of Jason Richardson.

I would watch an old school 3pt contest, that is what the nba should do if they want to spice things up

That would be sweet. Old guys don't lose touch. They should do old vs. new. It'd be great to see Larry Legend talking shit.

This format is a travesty ... this has all the appeal of synchronized swimming.

What would a Don Tiny do to save the dunk contest?

Dunk for charity ... $100,000 to the winner ... each miss -$5,000 .... a "50" score = +$10,000 .... 6 misses and you're out.

I would think a slam dunk contest should be more exciting than a home run derby ... it's not.

Pull the plug on the dunk contest. All combinations have been exhausted. The only thing left are the use of more props that only appeal to seven year olds.

The dunk contest is what we thought it was.

I don't know if this is original or pathetic - probably a mix of both - but the only thing that would make me tune into a dunk contest nowadays is if a legitimate, active shot player was invited to block a participant's dunk. I'd definitely like to see someone like George execute an acrobatic dunk over someone like Hibbert. I'm done with the damn mascots, cupcakes, and cars.

The team concept is awful for a dunk competition

I would love to see something like that, that would definitely be a twist that people would want to see, the team part of it literally made this the worst dunk contest ever
