Two year tops, probably less, until Dolan fires him.

I don't think Phil would want any of the Knicks current players on his team. This should set up for some interesting entertainment.

If he pulls this shit off, he will be, by far, the greatest NBA person ever. He could take a dump on Auerbach's career.

really interested to see how this goes.

I think it could be a similar situation of a great player trying to coach.

Great coach, but can he run a basketball organization?

It may be ignorance...but I think the coach has a tougher go of it than a GM / President, in the NBA at least.

Larger organizations like baseball and hockey may be different.

Jackson's ability to succeed will depend on the extent to which Dolan and Dolan peeps can keep out of basketball operations. The more they're kept out, the clearer Jackson's vision for the team will be as evidenced by his moves. The more they're around, the the less likely we will be able to differentiate between Jackson and the continuation of the mess over which Dolan has presided for the past several years.

Mike Ditka was known for his temper, but nobody lit up the ref's like Phil. Everytime they put the camera on him,it looked like he was bitching about something.

This will be very interesting. Good luck to him....up to a point.

It'll be great when Phil lets the incredible Carmelo Muthafucking Anthony hit the bricks.

That's because Phil was said to read books. Ditka can't spell "book."

I think it's easier to coach Jordan, Kobe, and Shaq than it is to identify one and be in a position to draft them.

He's got his work cut out for him.

I don't think he should take the job because it's not a matter of handling super star egos. What's ironic is that with the recent losing ways of the Atlanta Hawks the Knicks are within striking distance of the 8th seed. Will they make the playoffs or the lottery? "To tank or not to tank?" that is the question.

I don't think we realize Kobe didn't become Kobe until Phil got there. If I recall correctly that was the 4th or 5th year of his career.

I remember his 3rd season was the lockout year and it was clear he was going to be a really great player. I'm not sure we saw all-time great by that point. I don't remember if Phil was there yet but I don't think he was

He clearly had talent but he didn't develop until Jackson got there in his 4th year.

I disagree. I remember that lockout season pretty well. I just looked up his stats though and he was better than his stats portrayed. He was a star. Like I said, it wasn't clear he was gonna be an all time great, but it was clear he would be a perennial all star.

Jackson's best thing with Lakers was getting Kobe and Shaq to coexist.

He as a fan favorite and a really good player. He was definitely was an all star and would likely continue being one. He wasn't a great player IMO and I've been a huge Kobe fan since he got drafted. When LeBron came in the league we all knew he would be a great player and likely be an all time great player. We didn't see that from Kobe until Year 5 (2nd year with Phil). I don't think you can dismiss the impact Phil had on Kobe's game. He also had an impact on Jordan's game as well. Phil knows how to get the most out of great talent. Bynum and Gasol peaked under Phil.

I'm not disagreeing with you about Phil. I just disagree with Kobe not being great before Phil got there.

I thought it was clear how central an influence Phil had on both MJ and Kobe, even Shaq too, since all three to some degree have credited Phil with making them into the players they were at the apex of their careers.

Again, not disagreeing that Phil is an all time great coach that knew how to maximize great talent.

That's not true, unless there is only like 3-4 great players in the league at a time
