I would discourage establishing a relationship with people like that. We all lose people that we are close too and getting close to a child that's going to die could really hurt some players mentally.

The guy did a sweet thing for a sick child...that's his personal choice, I don't think we can dicatate stuff like that for players...it's not like the "no motorcycle" clause in contracts, there's nothing negative about kindness

Nonsense. Owners should also make players give their kids up for adoptions and put no-marriage clauses in their contracts. Dont want anything like personal relationships distracting from on-court dominance.

This is different from family or friends. The NBA encourages these things and I know it helps with branding but I know a lot of players have probably broken down or were mentally off for a little while after similar experiences.

It would matter to me if I was an owner. A few bad games could be the difference between making the playoffs or sitting at home and Lamar Odom is the extreme of what could happen. It's an unnecessary distraction.
