LeBron James has never been a fan of the short-sleeved jerseys the NBA began using in 2013.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star made that point abundantly clear Wednesday night against the New York Knicks, pulling at the sleeves until they ripped while he was in the midst of a 4-of-11 first-half shooting performance.

This isn't the first time he's shown his displeasure for the alternate jerseys.

After suffering a poor shooting night in 2014 while with the Miami Heat, James made a point to single out the jerseys.

"I'm not making excuses," James said after that game in March 2014. "I'm not a big fan of the jerseys, not a big fan of them. I've got to figure something out the next time I wear the short-sleeved jersey. ... I already don't have much room for error on my jumpers."

They're awful and just another reason why the NBA sucks now.

Lebron warmed up in them, played in them and only tore them after he missed another 3....i think he is shooting 10% from the 3 this year. shot looks off...not the sleeves

The Cubs had this issue back in the early '70's. Ferguson Jenkins said the new tighter unis felt uncomfortable around his arms.

But a good showman makes a big Hulk Hogan-like production about it.

Honestly i totally understand what hes saying. When im playin hard i cant stand sleeves either, just that hint of restriction fucks up your game. Just fuckin around its whatever but when youre really trying the sleeves are terribly annoying. I most prefer ballin shirtless

The Bulls wore tight sleeved jerseys in the last two games I watched and looked stupid in both of them, especially the grey ones. Why grey? If I finally got to go to a Bulls game and they didn't look like the Michael Jordan/Scottie Pippen Chicago Bulls because they had to wear green for St. Patrick's Day or environmental awareness or grey for who the fuck knows why, I'd be pretty pissed.

clearly adidas, who i think has the contract to make official NBA jerseys now, has visions of people rocking properly-sleeved NBA jerseys (or here's a legitimate use of "shirtseys" or "jerseyshirts" as i call 'em) much they can rock (euro)soccer jerseys, which is something that the powers that be in the sports/media have decided that it's nigh time for us to do what with ESPN's bottomline covering european soccer scores, julie dicaro giving us EPL table information during scoreboard updates (she's a chelsea fan.... you just knew it was gonna be something awful) and of course NBCSN wielding the premier league coverage like the big fucking deal i'm honestly glad it's seemingly becoming (cuz sports at 645am/9am/1130am or 8am/10am on the weekends are awesome, let alone midweek 1:45pm games)

soooo since our american media/business overlords have decided that it's time for us to consume more sports in the early hours leading up to proper american sport/s, i think there comes the mandate that the NBA adopt a means of selling shirtseys that are more than a t-shirt but defintiely NOT the traditional NBA jersey, which has become a punchline in "look at that white hipster kid rocking the ironic 90s NBA replica jersey" on deadspin and whatnot. and euro/soccer jerseys are the #1 most easily rockable jersey cuz 1) an actual shirt unlike NBA jerseys 2) no buttons on the front like MLB (altho that DOES work as outerwear to have a properly stylin-and-profilin t-shirt exuding from the open front, IMO) and 3) not a sweater like the NHL so less commitment to wear one, especially in the non-winter-months --- that's where this desire to have proper shirtseys comes from. NFL technically can do that, but there is no style to their jerseys besides number-font and basically you have giant #s all over with little room for logos.... way less style than a soccer kit (say it like the euros damn you!) where hell, sometimes even the plug for the company/product is part of the style (admittedly part of the reason i fell in love with arsenal is that as a sega guy i could see myself rocking their old yellow/blue sega road kits like a fossilized visor-rocking raver from the 90s) --- so isnt that a perfect thing for the NBA where commish silver has conceded they're gonna rip off euro soccer jersey sponsorships soon to feign style in the name of making more $$$?

by the way, euro soccer jerseys started having sponsors because the game doesnt have any commercial breaks til halftime, whereas american sports have commercial breaks what, on average every ~5mins or so? NFL tries to double that where they have a change of possession [commercial] JAY CUTLER READY TO LEAD THE BEARS ON THE FIELD... WE'LL SEE IT WHEN WE COME BACK [more commercials] then product. but hey since we're all idiots anyways and these new foreign jerseys with sponsors on them are different and cool to us they can have their cake and eat it too by slapping sponsors on the jerseys for a sport that goes to commercials every 5mins anyways (and prolly like every 2-3mins during the 2nd half of the 4th quarter) --- we'll lap it up cuz it's different/novel/new/pushed-at-us.

It's not just priming the pump for sponsors on jerseys, it's every team having so many jerseys for us to buy. I don't think teams should even have three, but here you have the Bulls with their white jersey, their red jersey, their black sleeved jersey, a grey sleeved jersey, a green St. Patrick's Day jersey, and presumably a black jersey with red pinstripes to throw back to '96, too. Even the Lakers and Celtics are wearing black and grey now. We're one step away from the NBA doing what those Single-A baseball teams do where it's Grateful Dead Night and the players wear tie-dyed uniforms.

Note that John McDonough, undisputed king of marketing until the Kane thing, has always favored fewer jersey options, not more. He made the Cubs stop wearing their blue jerseys the year he was president (2007), and eventually discontinued both of the Blackhawks' black sweaters because they were diluting the brand identity, the Winter Classic one not even having the traditional Indian Head on the front.
