He was a show horse almost a decade ago. He wouldn't pitch unless he was feeling absolutely 100%.

Not true. False narrative brought forth through guessing by beat reporters and announcers.

He had legit injuries. If you actually followed him, he pitched several games where he was hurt.

Every pitcher has legit injuries.

He pitched thru pain many times. He would pitch poorly and people would say he sucked, but then they would still say "he only pitches when he feels perfect"

Obviously not true.

I'll always remember attending the entire home-opener series vs the Expos in 2003. Game two featured a great pitching matchup: Javier Vazquez vs Mark Prior. Vazquez was only touched for an early 2R HR by Damian Miller, striking out 14 in his 7 innings of work; Prior went the distance giving up 4 hits 0 walks and striking out 12 of his own (112 pitches, of course).
"losing pitcher" Javier Vazquez

I don't know if this is true or if being compared to an injured Wood made him seem like he didn't care. The passion for being out on the field and doing whatever it took was clear from Wood but Prior came off like Cutler.

Why he isn't even trying this with the Cubs is a question in my mind.

They still do have a relationship with him, he comes to the Rookie seminars and talks to the minor leaguers about coming up , etc.

Sure, I know the whole thing is a long shot, but at least give the team that made you rich a chance.

I agree. And if he pitches well, they could dump him at the deadline for prospects.

That made me laugh. It really does seem to be the default response for every bad player they sign.

Not a legit sample size, but . . .

Quote:
Mark Prior pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 inning. He was hitting 91 on the radar gun. So far this season he’s appeared in three games, allowing two hits and a walk over four innings.

Yeah, I'm sure there's tons of interest out there for a guy who's been out of the big leagues for about 6 or 7 years.
