Buehrle has all the extras on his resume a pitcher could want with the no hitter, perfect game, World Series win and save, etc.

I think the most obvious missing piece is a Cy Young. In fact, he was in the top 5 of Cy Young voting only once, which illustrates why he isn't a HOF player.

he was not drunk for his save. He had 2 beers

He didn't quite phrase that right. Buehrle had two no-hitters, one of which was a perfect game, and then another outing where he gave up two singles that were both erased by double plays.

Some homer claims there, but interesting nonetheless.

Buehrle had stretches when he was just awful, too.

Had he hung on a couple more years, which he could have, maybe he's borderline. As is, nah.

Agree.

I don't think either 56 or 14 cared. When they were done, they were done.

I think that pretty well sums it up. He had about as cool of a non Hall of Fame career as it was possible to have, but I never thought I was watching a dominant pitcher who was an all time great.

Konerko and Buehrle.

All Time franchise greats that deserved whatever local accolades they get or will get, including their numbers being retired. Overall very, very good players, but not HOF worthy. Close and perhaps in the discussion, but not quite there.

This is 100% correct. I feel the same about Baines though.

Baines was head and shoulders above Paulie as a hitter. If Baines didnt play in such cavernous ballparks, their career home run totals probably would have been similar.

The veterans committee has definitely watered down Cooperstown more than anybody else though

And if Baines didn't play in the modern dead ball era. I don't think people understand that the game was different before the strike. Baines led the league in slugging one year at about .545
