If the Cubs don't love anyone at 4, but they did love Hoffman before the injury, they should just draft him and then sign him way underslot.

yeah reading up on him he does not sound like a Theo/Hoyer kind of pick.

I wouldn't go as far to call him unathletic. He's average at best in LF but he does have a strong and accurate arm. He also has a very good approach at the plate and the power will come. He'd be an under-slot guy who should have no problem moving quickly thru the minors. Freeland and Pentecost are a couple other under-slot candidates.

Lots of crazy rumors flying around the interwebs. I think these dopes associate every player with every team just to cover their asses and say they were "right".

So get working on copy and pasting all of them. Or are you too busy formulating your next dumbass post in the Cubs minor league thread?

It would be a big under slot deal. They would have to be very confident the guy they want in the 2nd round will still be there.

I'm going to guess that Nick Gordon ends up with one of the Chicago teams.

I would like to see the Cubs take Rodon or Nola.

One of my friends had a long conversation with Theo at some Cub event, maybe the Woody thing. He got into an argument with Epstein over taking pitchers in the first round. Theo was throwing all these percentages at him about the odds of guys making it. And my buddy was countering with so many overpowering aces (Kershaw, Verlander, Scherzer, Sale, Strasburg, etc.) all being first round guys. Theo kept insisting that the odds of a position player making it were overwhelmingly greater than those of a pitcher. My friend said, "I believe you, but you're counting Gordon Beckham as having made it in those numbers." Anyway, I'm not saying they wouldn't take a guy like Rondon if he was still there, but that The Cubs Way leans toward position players with that first pick.

I don't think that any of the field players stand out over Rodon or Nola, IMO. Theo and Co have said that field players have a better chance of making it, but they also say that they will draft the best player available in the first round, regardless of position. I think the pitching talent is heavier than the hitting talent at the top of this draft.

Overdrafting with your first pick in the hopes of being able to underdraft with your second seems completely back asswards to me.

Not all teams do it but the Cubs are in a bad position at #4. This draft would be a lot different if Jeff Hoffman and Erick Fedde didn't get injured because now they don't think there is a guy worth spending $4,621,200 on at #4. So take a safe under slot guy in the first round then overpay for a high ceiling guy in the second.

I think they should take Aaron Nola if he's there but it doesn't sound like they're going to do that.

I would take Nola, I think it is wise to draft the best college pitcher out there.

Another name I am hearing today is Kyle Schwarber

Schwarber looks like Vogelbach. :P

I'm hoping a top 3 pitcher drops to the Cubs, but if not...I'd like Nola too I think.

I read one mock draft where Nola dropped to the Brewers, as much as I would love for this to happen, I don't see it.

HAHN, PLEASE DON'T TAKE RODON FROM ME.

Go with Alex Jackson, I hear he is stellar. Or Nick Gordon.

Callis says he is the best college hitter in the draft.

They can save some money to put towards pitching later in a pitching deep draft.

I like it better than the OF from Oregon St

I am curious whether they project him as a C or OF. If C then it makes even more sense
