Love the pick of Ashe Russell by the Royals. I think he has a shot to be a real good one

Poor Funk is in free fall. Can't believe Ferris dropped to the Dodgers at 24. KC takes Nolan. Kid's gonna be a Dude.

Kirby to the Brewers. What a great use of a bullshit competitive balance pick. Guy is a top 10 talent. If he can get over these nagging injuries he could be the pick of the draft.

Players selected with Illinois connections:

#6 LHP Tyler Jay (Lemont HS)

#35 RHP Kyle Funkhouser (Oak Park HS)

#43 LHP Alex Young (Carmel HS)

#50 LHP Brett Lilek (Marian Catholic HS)

Alton HS LHP Bryan Hudson should hear his name called shortly. Illinois produces some serious arms.

Keyser,

Why do you think Funkhouser fell?

Funk has poor command because of a flaw in his delivery that will be very difficult to correct. I'm surprised he fell as far as he did because he was still up to 98 early in the spring and he had a plus slider. He's a gamble but if a team can figure out how to get him just average command he's a workhorse middle of the rotation starter.

I thought the Brewers did ok with their 3 picks last night, if you look at where they all were ranked going into the draft by the peeps.

I like what they did especially the Kirby pick. He's a very talented pitcher with non-arm related injuries. If/when he gets healthy he'll get to the Bigs in a hurry. They got tremendous upside out of a free pick.

Rounds 3-10 start today at 12:00 and some players with Illinois ties will hear their names called today. Bryan Hudson (Alton HS) should be the first off the board and only Illinois High School player popped today. Paul DeJong (ISU), Kevin Duchene (U of I) and Blake Hickman (Iowa) will be picked today. Ryan Perez (Judson), Ryan Hinchley (UIC) and maybe a money saver or two are also possibilities.

Hudson is now a member of the wrong side of the rivalry. Oh well, sucks for him.

Rounds 11-40 start at 11:00am. There are a few good local college players left and a bunch of High Schoolers who won't sign.

$100k is the allotted pick value in rounds 11-40. Any money spent over $100k is counted against the pool money from rounds 1-10. He won't be signing.

So what would they even offer him?

Not much over $100k and they know they're not going to sign him. The reason these guys get drafted at all is so they don't become free agents after the signing period is over.

He doesnt even play baseball.

I believe the Sox drafted Ron Schueler's daughter the one year if I remember correctly.

probably some elaborate tax shelter

I will sign my grandson who didn't play high school baseball to a $200K contract, which is what I would have otherwise put in his college savings account for his graduation

Why is it bad a high school kid asks for a bonus instead of going to college to get beat on like a donkey by a college coach?

The Sox have signed their 4-10 round picks (they didn't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick). I'm sure Filmore will be signed shortly after the College World Series is over.
