If anything Black Jack was underrated.

Your making too much sense in this thread

And Yes, Peeps. Prior needed to feel perfect to pitch. Not good for a game like MLB. But a lot of people think it was all the injuries combined. I maintain he was completely back in 2005. He was 4-1 striking guys out with a era in the 2's when Hawpe hit the ball off his elbow. He ended up 11-7 that year but he was never the same pitcher.

Thanks B-Ry.

I liked Prior and wanted him to do well.

I was as well. I was cheering for the Cubs back in 2003

Dolphin WOO WOO

Prior's run in the second half of 03 was one of the most dominant runs of pitching Ive ever seen. Pedro 2000 like.

Dots the low outside corner with a 94 mph fastball
12-6 Curve into a tea cup for strike two looking
95 high and juuuuust outside...swingin

Good morning, good afternoon, good night

And he got it back at the end of 04, start of 05

Hawpe is what ruined him.

No, you're clearly wrong.

I mean, he MAY have been on something. But thats not what did it

117 mph off the ol pitching elbow

No. That's a valid theory. We have no evidence either way.

The numbers support my theory.

FACT: He was completely back in late 04/05

Then he gets hit by a Hawpe line drive

Never the same

If you think its a coincidence that he was never the same after taking a 117 mph ball off his pitching elbow, I cant help you (Boers)

so he had shoulder problems, got hit with a liner in the elbow, then needed shoulder surgery. of course Hawpe did it!
QED.

No.

The timeline is wrong

He was 100% back in 05. No shoulder issue. He got hit in the elbow. Had surgery on that. The shoulder came later.

If he had shoulder problems before the Hawpe play he had a funny way of showing it 4-1 2.95 ERA 62/13 K/BB

so your theory is that the injured elbow caused the shoulder injury? Sounds plausible.

personally, I find it weird that a guy with such great stuff and good control could not come back as just an average pitcher with lesser stuff.

No, you're right maybe the elbow injury weakened the shoulder. Maybe the shoulder was gonna go anyway.

But as far as what took him from Dominant (94mph) to average (90mph) was the Hawpe shot

Start to worry if you see Ventura chewing on a toothpick.

I thought they already said they were shutting him down at 150.

If that is the case they are sure milking every pitch during those 150.

Gonna be interesting with him and Strasburg in pennant races

Most times these young guys with Inning limits are on bad teams

I don't think Sale will have a limit. They might skip him later in the season, and he is also on a stretch now where he will have 6 days off in between starts (Tampa, yesterday, and this upcoming week), and then again at the end of this month.

Strasburg is coming back from Tommy John so that is why they were going to limit him. I can't see either team doing so if their teams are still near the division lead come Sept 1.

No, he's on a program that was in place before the surgery. The limit is not due to TJ surgery.

Cant wait to see late August with these two

He's in AAA for Boston. There's honestly a chance he's up with the club when they come to Wrigley.

I would like to see him pitch in Wrigley again. If that happens (and he's a starter, where I know it's gonna happen) I'll be in the house. The guy had exceptional talent/ability and I would like to see him healthy and able to pitch again. I know I'm in the minority here, but I hope he can put things back together and resume his career. The Red Sox sure could use some help too.

I'm with you on Prior. I sincerely hope he gets back to the majors and is very successful. If he does start I'll be in attendance as well and will cheer for him when introduced.
