It was not that much of a surprise, since I had already read about the trade hours before the game. Those news reports tended to remove the surprise factor.

It is like if you go to a surprise party for you, but somebody has already told you about it. You can pretend all you want to that you were surprised, but it is never quite the same.

This would be a real nice look, if Ichiro Suzuki was not one hundred thirty seven (137) years old. I think, however, that Japanese people live longer because of their diet of rice and fish, so maybe he is in his prime.

"Joe Louis was one hundred thirty seven (137) years old when he fought Rocky Marciano!" (Barbershop).

That was not from Barbershop

The Barbershop scene in "Coming to America"

Barber shop wishes it could touch the level of comedy in those scenes

Point taken though

It felt a little awkward, that's all.

That is humiliating, particularly for somebody like me, who takes great pride in accurately quoting from movies.

Thank you for that clarification.

Pirates acquired LHP Wandy Rodriguez and cash considerations from the Astros in exchange for OF Robbie Grossman and LHPs Rudy Owens and Colton Cain.

Good deal for the Pirates. They haven't had a winning season in 102 years so they should trade everyone in their minor league system to make sure they have one this season. If anyone deserves to watch some meaningful baseball games in August and September it's Pittsburgh Pirate fans.

Did the Dodgers acquire Brian Hanley or Hanley Ramirez. You have got to be kidding me that they landed Ramirez and pitcher Choate for those 2 pitchers. I can't believe the Marlins traded their best player as a salary dump when he was under control for a few years and only 28. At least the kid can grow his hair out finally I guess.

If I'm Theo and I see the Marlins accepting bags of balls for young all star talent I see what they would take for Josh Johnson. I would absolutely build the future around that guy.

He should be their best position player if he would get his head out of his ass or his ass out of his head.

I'd still take Stanton over Hanley even if Hanley has his head on right.

He might be...at the end of the season. You know his former boss here is having quite the laugh seeing the Marlins fall flat on their face like this.

I was serious when I said Ozzie might be jobless at the end of the season. That owner down in Miami, Jeff Loria(?) is the same guy who also fired another World Series winning manager after 1 season. You may have heard of him...Yankees' manager Joe Girardi.

It probably belongs in the "National Media" section, but MLB Network is planning on 20 hours of live coverage leading up to the MLB Trade Deadline this Tuesday. MLBN's roster of analysts & insiders will be all over the place starting Sunday with "MLB Tonight" leading into a special 6-hour edition of "MLB Tonight: Trade Deadline Special" starting at 10A Tuesday morning, complete with the very latest rumors & trades from around the league. Just want to give everyone the heads up.

The 2nd 4th and 9th rated prospects in their organization. God dammit Garza's tricep.

Why don't you just go to milb.com and look him up instead of asking a sox homer.

There are 2 other threads to be hating in, but not this one.

He should be a pretty good one, Hawger. He's not the defensive player Alcides is but he'll be good enough. He has decent range and a strong arm. His offensive game is much better than Alcides. He should hit for a high average with some pop. He also has very good speed. He could be a 20/20 guy.

The one to keep an eye on is Johnny Hellweg. He's a 6'9" righty with a big fastball. They actually moved him from a reliever to a starter. He has to iron out some command issues but he could be a top of the rotation guy in the not so distant future.

I was in Georgia a few weeks ago watching my nephew and I saw a couple 2013 Arkansas recruits. They looked really good. I hope they end up on campus.

There was a report earlier this morning via Twitter and MLB Network's legendary Peter Gammons about a rumored deal between the Rangers' LF Josh Hamilton for Mets' lefty Johan Santana. No such deal exists, says Gammons.

Pirates acquired OF Travis Snider from the Blue Jays for RHP Brad Lincoln.

A swap of former first rounders who haven't lived up to their draft status. I like this trade for the Pirates because Snider (24) still has a chance to be a productive hitter where Lincoln (27) probably won't be anything more than a decent bullpen guy.

The Mariners have traded Brandon League to the Dodgers for prospects Leon Landry and Logan Bawcom.

Not a bad return for the Mariners. League has outstanding stuff and spurts of greatness but doesn't have the consistency to hold down a closers role. The Dodgers will hope he gets on a roll for the rest of the season setting up Kenley Jensen.
