And when these players recover and are fine, maybe folks will calm down about the virus.

Don't think anybody is that concerned about the players.

Yep. It's clearly not just about these players.

Yep. It's clearly not just about these players.

It's clearly about .04% of the population and clearly we are still freaking out about it.

Do you see a retraction of that? I don't. If Manfred dictates 50 games, they will go to camp. They will also file a grievance with NLRB.

That doesn't sound like they want to play then.

There will be a season. It is a matter of extended playoffs and if players will sue now.

Just cut straight to the playoffs. every team submits their roster to the Astros front-office and they run a thousand simulated seasons and spit out the final regular season standings.

I think they are getting very close to a drop dead date in terms of fan interest.

Honestly think they passed that date a month ago.

Amazing how both sides just can't help themselves from managing this the worst way possible.

If NBA happens then MLB is screwed. NBA playoffs right into NFL.

I wonder whether how many, if any, of the stats/records from this year would count in baseball’s record book. If some guy hits 5 homers in a game, but there are only 9 games played, would it be viewed as legit?

They had a chance to have the entire sports landscape to themselves and fucked it right up.

MLB will never miss an opportunity to fuck things up.

It's amazing to me how inflexible the players really are here. They got full pay per game. That's what they wanted. They then said to set the start date and number of games. They got that. Now, they won't sign the agreement for it and instead are pretty clearly looking to sue MLB for not playing enough games. This isn't the time to be greedy. Anyone with a basic understanding of how baseball makes money understands that in person attendance is a huge portion of the total revenue.

If the players truly don't want there to be a season then come out and say it and sign an agreement with the owners to cancel it with no legal issues going forward and we'll see you in 2021.

They really missed the boat on the storybook ending of opening the season July 4 weekend. That would have been good for everyone's bottom line.

I don't understand one of these leagues isn't taking advantage of the lull in corona activity to play meaningful or even meaningless games right now. NHL training camp is what, 2 weeks? And they mostly scrimmage for those few weeks. Could broadcast the scrimmages. It's like they're all waiting til their schedules bleed into the Fall and then their seasons risk getting shut down if all the back to school and work activity / weather /whatever spikes the virus.

I know you've been carrying the jocks for the owners this whole season, but it's really quite simple....how about the owners stop trying to ram in rule changes / experiments? How about Manfred just mandate the season schedule based on current CBA?

If either side really wanted to play...there'd be no back and forth....both sides are trying to force shit through. In the end they both have mud on their faces.

As Dolphin already said...the season should be starting 4th of July and they couldn't get out of their own way. That's players AND owners.

Do you think the players are holding out because they are mad about the DH?

The owners won't just mandate the schedule because the union plans to sue them for billions of dollars no matter what they do. The players are refusing to do an agreement to not file a grievance. If they would do that there would be a 50 game season right now.

The owners are at fault too but it's good to see you also blaming the players for this. Before, it was all about how the owners are messing this up. At least now people are seeing that the players are just as bad here.

All owners fault. The reason Players would file a grievance because owners have blatantly dragged their feet after their own stupid agreement in March. All Owners had to do was negotiate safety and pick a schedule. They didn't. Textbook bad faith bargaining. They made their bed. Period.

A lot changed since March.

The players should have made another agreement if they didn't like what the owners could do.

If the owners did nothing wrong, they have nothing to worry about in terms of a grievance. Just set the schedule and get started.

The owners fucked up. That's really all there is to it. Don't sign shit and recant. Don't then try to RE-negotiate in bad faith. It's out in public they want as few regular season games as possible. Their BUSINESS is GAMES. The don't want GAMES.
