raisel is making me laugh with the shit he's throwing you guys on the first pitch. then if he misses he's missing in places you can't hit him, and when he misses he usually doesn't miss by much. this dude is dirty.

edit: and now he's rattled after he got pinched on what should have been an easy third out. jay bailed him out tho on a 3-0 green light! dude.... seriously. ha.

edit #2: yeap, he stayed rattled consistently missing on the first pitch and then pinching himself missing the corners so when he had to come back over the plate you guys were waiting for him. 3 runs ensue. go figure once heyward did that thing where he got caught in between 2nd and 3rd to make sure the run scores (smart with martinez in a groove) and the bases were clear with 2 outs he summarily dispatched holliday.

so yeah, shit, the #s wont look good but what i saw today is that raisel iglesias is who i thought he was... a kid with dirty stuff who needs to get some experience/composure out there. he's gonna have some fun games this year when he goes against dumber teams.

I liked the skinny Cuban the first time and a half or so through the lineup. He showed good command of the bottom of the strikezone. Pena was doing his Tony Pena gymnastics back there and probably stole a couple strikes. Iglesias could be fun to watch if he can figure out how to get through a lineup a couple times. Kind of an El Duque-lite vibe to him.

uhhhh.... let's just skip over the fact that evidently nobody won the NL central from 97-99 (and they can't even draw a little astro bolting the fuck away like "THEY COULDNT TAKE OUR DOMINANCE" ??? very cardinal thing to do IMO)

you guys didn't win the NL central in 2001

(1) Houston Astros (Central Division champion, 93–69) vs. (3) Atlanta Braves (Eastern Division champion, 88–74): Braves win series, 3–0.
(2) Arizona Diamondbacks (Western Division champion, 92–70) vs. (4) St. Louis Cardinals (Wild Card, 93–69): Diamondbacks win series, 3–2.

but now since the astros have left and you had the same record as them you've just up and declared yourselves to be NL central champs of 2001. that's why people don't like the "cardinals thing" dude.

edit: oh fuck me.... Houston and St. Louis tied for the Central Division title, but Houston was awarded the division winner's playoff-seeding over St. Louis due to their 9–7 advantage in head-to-head play. Officially the two clubs were co-champions.

so even though houston was more of a division winner than you, still, you're division winners so put it on a flag! 17 rings to go until you lot can REALLY brag!

Mike Right has done the last 11 scorecards, fine work.

Every team with sustained success like the Cardinals have had lately has shown some level of bravado.
Based on what I’ve seen, I would think being too "classy" to brag fits the stereotype of obnoxious Cardinal fans more than anything.

This is specifically for Cardinals fans. You could call it "flaunting" or you could say it’s merely celebrating, and poking in a good-natured way. Look how cute those cartoon dudes are! You almost want to root for them.

Took you long enough to acknowledge us. Tell you what, man, we just don't get enough recognition around the baseball community. Thanks, Kirkwood.

For the record, I hate the BFIB narrative. I know I've told this story before here, but I will again. I'm at a game in 2007, early in the season. The Cardinals were presenting Marquis with his WS ring before the game, since he was now a Cub. I missed the ceremony. I asked the lady next to me "So, did they boo him?" Half jokingly, because I couldn't stand Marquis. She replies with "We're Cardinals fans. We don't boo." I just gave an ohhhhhhh-kay.

remember in.... shit was it 04? there was talk of a work stoppage on a friday and nobody knew if games would be played?

the cardinals fans who bus up from missouri/ish for a cards/cubs weekend series all represented @ the stadium. tons of cubs fans didnt show, so wrigley was legit overpowered by cardinals fans. 7th inning stretch? ROOT ROOT ROOT FOR THE CARRRRRRR-DINNNNAAALLLLSSSSS and yeah. that was a weird day to be there, and you have to give it to the cardinals fans cuz they do indeed represent.

personally, i said it way earlier in this thread but last year when i was listening to a random the cardinals game last year and those TV announcers were like [young pitcher] is looking for a plan B...... ADAM WAINWRIGHT HAS PLANS C, D, AND E. and then later he just out of nowhere goes "LAST YEAR EVERYONE WAS TALKING ABOUT MATT HARVEY'S ELECTRIC STUFF................... ADAM WAINWRIGHT IS BETTER"

and that, to me, is the essence of BFIB and the cardinal "thing"/hate

Greg summed it up there. We've been over this before... I equate it to the Cub fan who cites curses and actually believes it... every franchise has dumbass narratives that dumbass crackers buy into and try to hit you over the head with them.

We might as well enjoy the misery at the bottom of the division while we can.

Soler and Bryant are 6 for 7 with a walk.

6th in WAR among all position players. Directly behind him on that list…

Goldschmidt, Cano, Zobrist, Adam Jones, Posey

I'd take our guy in every "matchup" you have there. Arrieta- Lynn is interesting... if you value a guy who is a consistent 200 inning 15 game winner every year, or a guy who has been good for 1+season in his career. The other 2 aren't really debatable (to me)

it's called taking the piss dude, the cubs don't have pitching. schlitter is in there again trying to hold a 4-3 lead with 2 on in the bottom of the 6th.

Cub has potential. in my OOTP game, a bunch of guys that are 5 star potential, 1.5-2 star current, and a very high boom/bust variable

Cardinal is a development machine... churning out 2-3 star prospects into 3-4 WAR players. (Jay, Marpenter, Craig, Lynn, Wong, Tavares RIP et al)

I have no doubt Taveras would have put up 1-2 WAR on defense and baserunning alone. Matheny jerked him around and never defined his role. His 80 hit tool was Guerrero-like... yes, a bit of Bryant-esque masturbaprojection here 8)
