LaRussa put position players on the mound down by 6 runs.

Why? I guarantee SD will have a half a dozen heartbreakers. It's the essence of baseball. And nobody knows it better than baseball players. It's a season of 1500 innings.

A lot of teams would call it a night down 7-1 in the 7th on the road.

I agree but there's so much randomness in baseball that even calling it a night , some crazy shit can happen. Down 5 or 6 runs in the 7th? I'm guessing a comeback happens a 6-10 times a year. I just don't put stock in the occasional magic dusting.

I wouldn't put stock in it if it were the Marlins or the Orioles. The Padres are a favorite to win the whole damn thing. I'm with you though. Crazy shit happens all the time.

But they did score those 6 runs all on singles. That's not crazy, that's insane. The energy in the dugout was fun to see. They made a statement (you're welcome to think that's a stupid thing to say) winning 3 out of 4 against the World Series champs.

Shane Bieber has now struck out at least 8 batters in 18 straight games.

Nothing against Bieber, but I wonder how many strikeouts Nolan Ryan would have in today's era. In 1973, when he set the season record at 383 (in the AL where there was a DH), the total number of strikeouts in MLB was 20,358. In 2019, there were 42,823 (an increase of 110%). That would translate to 805 strikeouts for Ryan in a year.

He probably also had over 300 innings in 1973.

they like it like that. i've seen most of their games this year. they manufacture runs instead of trying to HR every pitch. That's why they are in first. And now w/ the changes to the ballpark, the ball is carrying at oracle, so they are also getting those timely hrs. Also i think they have the best defense in the NL statistically.

seems like their GM and manager have figured out if you play good defense, manufacture runs, and have good pitching, you'll win in today's MLB. Pretty simple plan but everyone in MLB is HR or nothing.

Tiger 7-0 over KC in the 8th.

Now it’s 7-7 in the top 9. Kc still up.

no-no's have lost their value in the era of launch angle. They're like a 4 hit game now. Nice...but, eh, flip the page.

ya you can thank the launch angle era. K or HR makes it easy for pitchers to get guys out.

i think teams are going to get out of it. Like the Giants and White Sox are showing you win by manufacturing runs and hitting timely home runs. Not trying to hit a HR every AB.

mlb.tv is 50 percent off now.

They also have a nightly live show now called MLB BIG INNING. The show goes from game to game for every big moment. Multiple games at once. Pretty nice so I don't have to keep switching out games.

Bernstein, Julie, Speigel, Parkins have to be outraged with the camouflage uniforms honoring the military on "Armed Forces Day".
