Charlie Tilson didn't get popped. Maybe he's a little more serious about going to Illinois than people thought.

Yeah Keyser, I was extremely happy they ended up getting both of these. Now, you just hope that one of them ends up on the fast track to the Majors.

Jungmann will move the fastest. He can't throw it through a brick wall like some of the guys in this draft but he's very polished and just knows how to pitch. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the bigs sometime next season.

Bradley has all the physical tools to be an ace but has to work on a becoming a pitcher rather than a thrower. If/when he figures things out he will be dominating and Brewers will have a great front end of the rotation for years to come.

The Cubs 2nd round pick (8th) will be very interesting because there are lots of incredibly talented players left on the board who have dropped because of signing concerns. It will be fun to see if they grab any of these players like Josh Bell, Matt Purke, Henry Owens, Dillon Howard, Charlie Tilson or Nicky Delmonico.

So all that pitching on the board for both the Cubs and Sox and neither take one?

Pretty questionable draft on both sides of town. Hopefully it works out.

Pittsburgh grabs Josh Bell. He wrote a letter to all 30 teams telling them not to draft him because he's going to college (Texas). He's a top 10 talent and if they can sign him, watch out for the Bucos (if you're not already).

Cubs get HS 1B Daniel Vogelbach. 6'0" 250 (yikes). Faguely remember reading something about him. Going to asume by his size that his calling card is raw power.

BA has him as the 109th rated player. He hit .459 with 17 home runs.

Could be another 'safe/cheap' pick.

Detroit pops James McCann. That's 4 recruits and 1 player from Arkansas. Your boys are getting fleeced, Hawger.

Sox are 3 picks away.

Tilson
Delmonico
O'Brien
Westlake

Don't we hear this all the time? Why should we believe it now?

We've heard the same thing for years about KC too, though it seems some of their prospects are finally starting to break thru (Hosmer, etc)

Sox pop RHP Eric Johnson from Cal. BA's 97th rated prospect. 6'2" 240.

6-2 1.94 ERA 80 K's in 84 innings.

I like it.

They were syaing the same thing about the Rays and look what they've done the last 3-4 years. It takes time in baseball but there is no doubt those two organizations have been loading up on talent for the last few years.

The Pirates have been loading up on talent for the last 20 years.

That's what I mean. I know it takes time but for years (I mean since like '02-'03) we have heard about the great talent in the minor league systems of KC and Pittsburgh. And yeah they have produced a couple of All Stars, but nobody that is really a game changer. They also have seemed to produce a lot of busts (I know every team does, but still), or a lot of guys who have a good season or 2, and then tank-- see Carlos Beltran.

I wouldn't call Carlos Beltrain a bust. That guy was the real deal. His downturn was caused more by injuries than "busty-ness" :D

Not sure if you've noticed but the Pirates aren't awful this year. They have a couple impact players like McCutchen and Walker and nice pieces like Tabata, Morton and Alvarez and the majority are still in the minors like Taillon, Allie, Sanchez, Owens and Locke now add Cole, Bell (if he signs) and Dickerson. Things are definetly looking up in the Steel City.

Sox 3rd rounder is a junior college pitcher. Jeff Soptic. 6'6" 210. 110th rated prospect

Cubs took OF Ezekial DeVoss from Miami. 5'10" 175. Not ranked in top 200.

In the 4th round the Cubs take Louisville closer Tony Zych (St Rita HS).

Zych has an electric arm touching 98 mph but horrible mechanics. If the Cubs can straighten him out this could be a tremendous pick.

BA has him as the 50th prospect.

Keyser, can you give me a report on the 18 year old kid the Brewers took in the 2nd round from Puerto Rico?

Jorge Lopez (unfortunate name)? I know nothing about him but I'll try to find something.

Their 4th rounder is an interesting pick. 1B/LHP Nick Ramirez from Cal St Fullerton. He was the teams best power hitter and closer with an outstanding changeup. Not sure where he's going to play in the bigs but with that changeup I think he has to be a pitcher.

Sox 4th rounder is RHP Kyle McMillen from Kent St. 6'2" 200. 94th rated prospect

Looks like he was the closer. 2.08 ERA and 16 saves

Sox are stock piling college pitchers.

Just read in the paper up here that he wants to a position player. I know we need pitching, but I am really surprised there wasn't a middle infielder picked by them yet. They have nothing, especially at short stop coming up thru the system.

Why not make him another Brooks Kieshnick? He can pitch once every 5 days, and play the field the other days.

That is exactly what it sounds like, that is bad. :(

If a team could draft a player that was capable of doing both things well, he might be one of the most successful players ever. If Rick Ankiel wasn't such a head case on the mound, I think he could have done it.

Yes, but it never happens. Now, if he decided to be the first and could do it. Outstanding, but the track record is not good.
