Damn that's a lot to give up for a middle reliever. Cox was the 20th pick in the 2010 draft out of Arkansas. St Louis aggressively moved him through the system as he's already in triple A. Cox hasn't hit for power but he still has time to develop. Nice trade by the Marlins

He really won't hit for power with the Marlins.

Didn't take long for the Marlins to drop their "create a team of latin players to placate our fanbase" idea. Dumping as many latin players as possible for a bunch of honkies.

Well, the Marlins are cutting their losses because they suck at baseball, despite the new identity, logo, uniforms & new ballpark. Wouldn't be shocked if Ozzie is one of them after this season, too.

Not sure what this means, but the Diamondbacks have acquired OF Scott Podsednik & righty reliever Matt Albers from the Red Sox for lefty reliever Craig Breslow. I think both teams are very much out of the money, even though there are 2 wildcards this season in Major League Baseball.

Third base is taken care of for a while...

He's expendable.

The Yankees have acquired onetime Cub farmhand 1B/3B Casey McGehee from the Pirates for reliever Chad Qualls, says Rosenthal & Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

The team is in a free fall, and this is what I get. Ha ha ha!

The Reds got Jonathan Broxton an hour before the deadline. He came in last night, got three straight outs and turned it over to Chapman. The Reds had the best bullpen in baseball before the trade.

The back end (Marhall, Broxton, Chapman) is good.

I mentioned that deals can still be made after the July 31st MLB Trade Deadline, thanks to waivers. The Indians have designated starting pitcher Derek Lowe for assignment after their latest loss to the Royals in Kansas City.

Zobrist is hugging people in the dugout. Didn't see that coming.

Now I see he left the game with back spasms. If someone was trying to stretch him out, and it was reported as a trade, I'm out of the SHARK game.

The Diamondbacks have traded Stephen Drew to the Athletics for minor league infielder Sean Jamieson. The Athletics will pay the rest of Drew's 2012 salary. Drew has a $10M mutual option with a $1.35M buyout in 2013

Drew is very talented but multiple injuries have beatin him down as he's hitting just .193/.290/.311 in 40 games this season. The A's have gotten zero production from their shortstops so this is a gamble worth taking. I doubt the A's will pick up Drew's option. This was purely a salary dump for the D'Bags as Jamieson is nothing to get excited about.

Hmmm...The A's have a shortstop on their roster who is also struggling. That's SS Cliff Pennington, who must be expendable now that Stephen Drew is Oakland-bound. The A's are among the teams right smack in the middle of the AL Wildcard derby.
