Blake DeWitt knocked out 2 hits that day but it wasn't enough for Koyie Hill, Tony Campana, and company to bring the Cubs home a victory against Anthony Rizzo and the Padres.

It was cool except it's what brought on the bullshit 2nd wildcard team.

I was hesitant at first about the 2nd WC, but it keeps many middling contenders in the game and fielding competitive lineups in September. And the one-and-done nature of the WC play-in game really tilts the field toward the top seed, as presumably the 2 WC teams are going to burn their top pitcher. I didn't see too many Cub fans last year railing against the 2nd WC. I actually have no clue who you root for, so the previous sentence isn't a shot or comment about your fandom as it's irrelevant to this discussion.

Nah, even as a Cub fan I think it's stupid.

I'm hardly a baseball traditionalist, but after an 162 game schedule, I don't think adding more playoff teams is a good idea. No matter how many games the Cubs won last year any 3rd place division team shouldn't be in playoffs.

I think they should go back to the League winners going straight to the WS.

If we ever make it to 32 teams, I'd like to see four divisions of eight, where 1st and 2nd play in the LDS, no 3rd place teams allowed.

I don't mind the wild cards, but there isn't enough reward for winning the division. Once a team gets through the wild card game, if they can manage to grab the first game of the NLDS, they have all the advantage. And the spacing of the games protects their pitchers.

I'm not the biggest Costas fan, but he has a plan that would shorten the season a few games, extend the wild card to three games in a short period and adjust the number of home games for division winners to a point where it is an extreme advantage to the winners. That would probably be good.

No days off during series. 5 straight two off then 7 straight 3 off then 7 straight

More like real baseball

I want to say if you didn't get the feels from this video, you don't really love baseball.

Adding the 2nd WC was a great decision (other than for the 1st WC team). It gives the division winners a bigger reward than they used to have (which was just home field advantage), by forcing the WC teams to burn their best starter. Over time, I think this will definitely result in fewer WC teams advancing, which is how it should be.
