The talk on the board btw 2005 and 2016 made me think. That Angels series with the White Sox was so cool because those starters went the distance. But starting especially with the Royals the type of baseball played in the postseason is so much different than the regular season. And it's a much worse type of baseball. Any little hiccup and a pitcher is pulled for a reliever. Postseason will always lend itself to tense moments because the next pitch could be so huge. But I despise the trend towards starting pitchers losing all trust come playoff time. It's makes for really bad baseball. |

It doesn't suck but I agree the overmanaging hurts. These guys are trying to show they're so much smarter by making moves just to make moves. |

of course postseason baseball sucks! it's a little tournament of a freakshow afterlife of the self-contained-universe that entertains us for a proper 6 months of the year (and allows some of us to be back-to-back-to-back sandlot league champions behind the power of THE UNQUESTIONED BEST PITCHER IN THE WORLD: CLAYTON KERSHAW!) but if you're one of those october junkies you might start thinking that clayton kershaw is no kyle hendricks, which uhh... you know? you know? ERA champion my ass! |

I totally understand why the Indians would resort to the "by committee" approach...they had no choice. If you're going to use the quick hook or pitching by committee only in the playoffs, seems like there would be a much greater chance of backfire. Is it the next logical step in pitching evolution or just a passing trend? Starters are going fewer and fewer innings. Will this extend careers? Could it allow teams to return to a four man rotation? |
